I had the wonderful opportunity of teaming up with Roy Poucher and Hope Kanaley of Bird Odyssey Tours from Orange County, California and co-leading a fantastic group of birders/photographers. Based out of Minot, North Dakota we covered a wide range of unique habitats throughout the 3 1/2 days, from the wetlands of Granville to the short grass prairies of Mantitou then up to the Canadian boarder into the deciduous forests of the Turtle Mountains, afterwards on our final half day we traveled to the Garrison Dam/Missouri River area in Riverdale and Washburn, North Dakota.

Our highlights of the trip were wonderful views of Baird’s Sparrow, Chestnut-collared Longspur, Nelson’s Sparrow, Upland Sandpipers, Pileated and Red-headed Woodpeckers, a good mix of woodland warblers, Piping Plover and many more!

Non-bird highlights were Moose and Pronghorn

A quick weekend tour focused on photography, from East to West starting with urban birding in Fargo for Gray Partridge then down to the southern Ponderosa Pines of LaMoure for Red Crossbills. Off to the Prairies and Potholes region of central North Dakota for Black Terns, Dickcissel, Longspurs and much more. 101 degrees and humidity doesn’t stop us!
