⚠ Chaco Road/Weather Update - October 25th ⚠

The whole region has received a LOT of rainfall over the last few days. There are damaged roads and flooded areas throughout the Four Corners area. Due to flooded (and muddy/impassable) roads leading to the park and in the area, we do not advise traveling to Chaco at this time. We want all of our future visitors to remain as safe as possible! As a reminder, when you see flooded roads - turn around, don't drown!

A lot of areas around Chaco are also being impacted by these storms; if you are changing your plans to visit another location, please check to see if roads/bridges are still open and hours of operations have not been affected.

Those of us who live in the park are at the visitor center and are answering phone calls. If you have any questions or concerns about your future visit, please don't hesitate to give us a call: 505-786-7014. We will be here until about 5:30, and will be back to work tomorrow just before 9. If we don't answer your call right away, either leave a message or call us back in about 10 minutes; we may have stepped away from the phone or might be talking to another caller.

Looking ahead, current weather forecasts are predicting some storms this afternoon, and then partly sunny or sunny days at least through Thursday. Assuming that holds, it is likely the south road will start drying out (albeit slowly). The north road will not be an option in that time frame. Please remember that if you encounter an area you do not feel safe driving through, you should turn around. If you have questions about the road, your vehicle's capabilities, or any other things you'd like to ask about a future visit, please don't hesitate to call!

Temporary Marina closures at Navajo Lake Marina & Sims Marina.

Temporary Marina closures at Navajo Lake Marina & Sims Marina. Due to water levels rising at unprecedented rates the marinas are unable to maintain walkway access to the facilities. The lake climbed nearly 10 feet in a 24-hour period and the inflows are just now cresting. Staff hopes to have access restored Saturday, October 24th but it is a fluid situation.

FLOODING UPDATE from San Juan County Office of Emergency Management

Flooding update 7:44 am 10/23/2026

EVACUATE NOW:
Wildhorse Valley
Lee Acres
Bloomfield, South Church and Calle Del Rio area
Road 2620 and more along the Animas in Cedar Hill.
Others along both the San Juan and Animas rivers.

There are more areas, and rivers are still rising. If you see rising floodwaters, DON'T WAIT, GET OUT.

The River will continue to rise; the peak will not be until late tonight or tomorrow morning.

Evacuate to McGee Park. Pets and RVs ok. (McGee Park shelter facilities are safe and dry)

Road 5500, at the bridge over the San Juan is closed.

Floodwaters have impacted the Bloomfield sewage treatment plant, consider floodwaters contaminated with sewage.

All schools are closed or out for parent-teacher conference.
