Sometimes sauna “research” takes you down a dirt road. When you’re a little sauna-obsessed you simply must go.
I made my way to Nurture Through Nature in Denmark, Maine — the green-certified retreat center that inspired so much of South Woods’ nature-based wellness design and offering.
And y’all. It was lovely.
A woodfired sauna tucked into the woods. Natural dipping pools. Dowsing buckets at the ready. A sauna tender who greeted me, helped me settle in, and let the rest of the experience be what it needed to be.
There was something especially sweet about driving down a dirt road, arriving solo, finding my way through the trees to the sauna, and knowing that somewhere ahead was a good, hot sauna waiting for me.
The anticipation was part of the ritual.
It was every bit as lovely in person as I had imagined and a good reminder of why we built South Woods the way we did. If left inspired and even more passionate about making South Woods a love letter to the Ozarks.
If you ever find yourself in Denmark, Maine, take the drive. Follow the dirt road. Find the sauna
