A New Chapter in Our Locomotive History
We are proud to announce a significant new addition to our locomotive roster. On Sunday, Shay #14 officially joined the Roaring Camp family. Owners Lindsey and Rosa Ashby have generously leased the historic locomotive to Roaring Camp, allowing us to become the next steward of this remarkable piece of railroad history.
The arrangement was carefully kept under wraps from the public and railfan community so that we could preserve a very special surprise for Roaring Camp employee Phil Reader, who worked at the Georgetown Loop Railroad and has strong personal ties to Shay #14. For years, Phil had championed the idea of bringing #14 to Roaring Camp, never imagining that his wish might actually come true. On Sunday, August 9th, management surprised Phil when Shay #14 arrived through the front gate aboard a Rosser Inc. Heavy Haul truck. It was a memorable moment for Phil and everyone fortunate enough to witness the arrival of this historic locomotive.
Shay #14 has played an important role in the history of several renowned railroads and museums, including the Westside Lumber Company, the Georgetown Loop Railroad, and the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden, Colorado. Each chapter of its journey reflects the rich heritage of steam railroading and the enduring legacy of the Shay locomotive.
We are honored to welcome Shay #14 to Roaring Camp and look forward to giving this historic locomotive a new chapter in its long and distinguished story.
A special thank you goes to everyone who helped make this possible: Jeff Badger, Phil Johnson, Lindsey and Rosa Ashby, Mark Greska, and the team at the Colorado Railroad Museum. We are also incredibly grateful to Chris, Steve, and Branden at Rosser Inc. for safely transporting the #14 to Roaring Camp.

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of Sylvia Pelayo this morning.

Sylvia was far more than a crew member, she was family to everyone who had the privilege of working alongside her during her many years at Roaring Camp. She had an extraordinary heart, cared deeply for every individual she met, and truly considered all of us to be part of her Roaring Camp family.

Sylvia took immense pride in her work and often spoke about the importance of teaching our younger employees not only how to do their jobs well, but also how to develop the work ethic and skills they would carry with them throughout their lives. She believed in helping others succeed, and her guidance, encouragement, and example left a lasting impact on countless people.

Sylvia's kindness, compassion, dedication, and unwavering spirit will be profoundly missed. While our hearts are heavy, we are grateful for the many years we were fortunate enough to share with her. She will forever live on in our hearts, our memories, and in the enduring legacy she leaves with the Roaring Camp family.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Sylvia's family and loved ones during this difficult time.
