The Musée de l'Orangerie in Paris will open a major new Monet exhibition on September 30, marking 100 years since the painter's death.
The show, called "Monet, Painting Time," brings together nearly 40 paintings borrowed from the Musée d'Orsay, the Musée Marmottan Monet, and collections around the world. Instead of a straightforward retrospective, it follows one idea through Monet's career: how he painted the same subject over and over to catch it at a different hour, a different season, a different light. Visitors will see his haystacks, his poplar trees, and Rouen Cathedral, each painted in series, before the exhibition ends where it always was going to end, in the museum's oval rooms, face to face with Monet's Water Lilies.
The exhibition runs through January 25, 2027, and the museum will stay open late on Fridays until 9pm for the occasion. A standard ticket costs 12.50 euros (about 13 dollars), with a reduced rate of 10 euros, though the museum also offers a separate virtual reality experience for visitors who want to go further into Monet's garden at Giverny.
