HATCHET MAN ROAD, Nacogdoches, Texas
The legend is tied to Old Post Oak Road, a wooded, rural stretch of road in Nacogdoches, Texas, often referred to locally as Hatchet Man Road.
According to local East Texas lore, the story dates back to the 1930s. One popular version suggests a man lost his mind and used a hatchet to attack people at a nearby church. Another version claims the Hatchet Man was a scarred man who terrorized girls whose car broke down in the area.
Folklore dictates that if you drive down this road, you might see the Hatchet Man lurking in the trees. Some legends suggest you must drive or walk backwards down the street to make him think you are crazy, or he might chop you up. If you are unlucky enough to be passing by these parts of the woods at night , beware.. you might just see the shadowy figure of the hatchet man stalking the road, hatchet at the ready , eager to satisfy his blood lust with his next victim.
