🎬 THE MOVIES YOU NEED TO WATCH AT THE MONTCLAIR FILM FESTIVAL!

If you’re anywhere near Montclair, New Jersey, and you love a good movie, PLEASE don’t sleep on this year’s Montclair Film Festival🍿

We went through the lineup and picked some of the films we’re most excited about, and the variety this year is actually incredible.

There’s Act One, a psychological thriller about control and obsession in the acting world that was made right here in Montclair. Clarissa is a modern reimagining of Virginia Woolf’s Mrs. Dalloway, and INK is for anyone who loves a movie that completely messes with their mind.

But the documentaries?! SO many important stories.

The Baddest Speechwriter of All Time features Martin Luther King Jr.‘s lawyer and speechwriter, while Free Joan Little explores the groundbreaking case of a woman acquitted after using deadly force to resist sexual assault. There’s also Adam’s Apple, The Great Experiment, and The Lake, which tackle deeply relevant social and environmental subjects.

And if you want something different, there’s Before Dawn for thriller lovers, Coward for historical drama fans, Mallory’s Ghost for a beautiful but haunting story about grief, and Matched if you’re in the mood for a comedy.

PLUS, there are short film programs, animated films, and so many other independent movies worth discovering.

One of my favorite things about film festivals is getting to watch stories you might never come across otherwise. And the Montclair Film Festival brings those stories right here to New Jersey. ❤️

THINGS TO DO IN NEW JERSEY • OCTOBER 14–15 🎃👀

Whoever said weekdays in New Jersey are boring clearly hasn’t seen what’s happening this week. From horror movie experiences and Halloween attractions to creative workshops, live music, and free community events, Jersey has PLENTY going on October 14–15.

And some of these are genuinely unhinged.

Horror lovers can experience a screening of the new Crystal Lake series at an original Friday the 13th filming location in Blairstown, while fall enthusiasts can explore a glowing pumpkin trail and flashlight corn maze in Forked River. There’s even a KPop Demon Hunters character experience in Hillsdale at Demarest Farms. 🎃

If you’re looking for creative things to do in New Jersey, you can decorate fall cookies in Rutherford, paint vinyl records while enjoying live music in Jersey City, make miniature cakes and gemstone pumpkins in Pompton Lakes, or create Halloween charms in Red Bank.

There are also FREE events happening across New Jersey, including a plant swap and propagation gathering in Roselle and a book swap at Catfight Coffee in Boonton. Plus, history lovers can explore Revolutionary War stories in Mahwah and take lantern-lit tours of George Washington’s headquarters in Wayne.

And that’s not even touching the live performances, cultural celebrations, book discussions, and other weekday events happening throughout the state!

A HORROR-INSPIRED COFFEE SHOP IN NORTH JERSEY?! 🎃

If you’re someone who loves horror movies, cult classics, and discovering unique coffee shops in North Jersey, there’s a little spot in Boonton you need to know about.

Catfight Coffee is one of those places where the theme isn’t just a couple of decorations on the wall. The entire café has personality, from its seasonal drinks and quirky menu items to the little surprises hiding around the space. It’s the kind of place where you almost forget you walked into a coffee shop and not some wonderfully unhinged movie set.

And for my fellow caffeine-sensitive people, I have GREAT news. I ordered their Campfire Latte decaf, and it was delicious. They also offer vegan and gluten-free treats, which makes this an especially interesting find for people looking for coffee shops in North Jersey with different dietary options.

Now, we need to discuss something called the Crappy Meal. I don’t know who came up with that name, but they immediately earned my respect because I love a good pun.

But the bathroom stole the show honestly

You enter through a secret library doorway, which is already enough to win me over, but there’s also a little peephole where Jack Nicholson is waiting for you. Because apparently going to the bathroom should also be a cinematic experience.

If you’ve been searching for unique things to do in North Jersey, horror-inspired places in New Jersey, or just a coffee shop that’s completely different from the usual, Catfight Coffee deserves a spot on your list.

CENTRAL JERSEY EVENTS THIS WEEKEND • OCTOBER 9–11 🎃👀

A CAT CONVENTION IN ASBURY PARK?! A FARM OF HORRORS IN FLEMINGTON?!

Central Jersey is absolutely showing off this weekend, and these might be some of the most random things to do in New Jersey this October.

If you’re looking for Central Jersey events this weekend, there’s a Rocky Horror Picture Show screening and live performance in Keyport, pumpkin painting in Metuchen, a vintage and antique market in Lambertville, and giant pumpkin sculptures in Pennington.

And that’s just Friday.

Saturday and Sunday are bringing even more fall festivals and Halloween events across Central Jersey, including Oktoberfest in Rahway and Red Bank, an apple festival in Medford, a cat convention in Asbury Park, live music, art workshops, and some seriously unusual experiences.

NORTH JERSEY EVENTS THIS WEEKEND • OCTOBER 9–11 🎃

North Jersey is absolutely SHOWING OFF this weekend. 😭 If you’re looking for things to do in North Jersey October 9–11, we’ve got haunted attractions, fall festivals, book fairs, art workshops, live entertainment and some truly unhinged Halloween experiences.

And when I say unhinged, I mean a haunted Renaissance faire, a haunted hike in Summit, a haunted market in Montclair, a haunted corn maze and hayride in Hackettstown, and a zombie car wash in Rockaway where clowns and animatronics chase you. EXCUSE ME?! 💀

But there’s way more than Halloween events happening across North Jersey this weekend.

📚 Morristown has a festival of books, Kearny has a silent book club, and Montclair has a cookbook swap and wellness festival.

🍂 Looking for fall festivals in North Jersey? There’s a haunted hayride and fall festival in Newton, a mineral festival in Ogdensburg, a Lenape Day celebration in Chatham Township, an Italian food festival in Randolph, and more fall festivities in Newton on Sunday.

🎨 For our creative Jerseyans, there’s pottery firing in Cranford, perfume making and Pilates in Newark, and anthotype sun printing in Hardwick.

🎶 And that’s not even touching the live entertainment, Montclair Pride, cultural markets, community swaps, car shows and other events happening throughout North Jersey.
