Ski.com Inside Track for February 28, 2012
Last weekend one of my best friends came to Aspen from Telluride bearing what, to me, is the best kind of gift around: a 12-pack of Bridal Veil Rye Pale Ale, two pint glasses and a growler of Whacked Out Wheat beer, all from the newly-opened Telluride Brewing Company. She knows I am always up for taste-testing a new brew and it's no secret that craft beer and mountain culture go hand in hand. This sparked a discussion in the Ski.com offices, which led to the below list of what we consider to be our favorite brew pubs to throw back a pint or two after a day on the mountain.
Telluride Brewing Company - Telluride, CO: "Adventure brought us to these mountains. Friendship made us stay. Community made Telluride our home." A dream of two Telluride transplants finally came to fruition last fall when Telluride Brewing Company opened their doors. As one of the highest microbreweries in the world, Telluride Brewing Company serves up a variety of beers that come straight from Rocky Mountain snowmelt. Their beers are made with premium malts, hops and yeasts creating rich aromas and smooth-tasting flavors.
Deschutes Brewery - Bend, OR: An older, well-known brewery, the Deschutes Brewery was established in downtown Bend in 1988. Its beer can be found at many bars and liquor stores across the west but there's nothing quite like experiencing it where it all began. Spend a day on the slopes of Mt. Bachelor then head into Bend to do an après bar/brew pub crawl starting at Deschutes. With nearly a dozen breweries in town, Bend has more breweries per capita than anywhere else in the U.S.
Snake River Brewing - Jackson Hole, WY: Established in 1994 in the heart of the Teton Mountain Range, Snake River Brewing has won hundreds of national and international brewing awards including "Small Brewery of the Year" at the Great American Beer Festival in both 2000 and 2001. All roads, trails, bike paths, climbing routes and ski runs lead to Jackson Hole's favorite restaurant, "The Brewpub"! After a day in the great outdoors how can you not partake in a tasty malt beverage and a delicious meal?
Breckenridge Brewery - Breckenridge, CO: Colorado's third craft brewery, Breckenridge Brewery, opened in 1990 and has since grown into one of the most successful craft beer and restaurant companies in the nation. Locals and visitors alike are still enjoying the original brewery located on Main Street in downtown Breckenridge.
