Aura and her daughter were the most gracious hosts, and had immense patience with our group's lack of tortilla making skills. ⁠
⁠
In Guatemalan culture, corn tortillas are a staple with just about every meal. Women often use a heavy grinding stone for grinding cornmeal and making the dough balls, before they are patted between the palms to create the familiar tortilla shape we all know well.⁠

Sometimes this beautifully worn tool and centerpiece is handed down from mother to daughter, sometimes it is a wedding gift.⁠

Open air kitchens are typical in this village, and they truly made us feel like we were part of the family.⁠
