AMBASSADOR TRAVEL
AND MASHPEE CHAMBER TO IRELAND
(with GOLF as an option)
OCTOBER 2 - OCTOBER 11 2018
Day 1:
Arrive in Dublin airport and meet with your driver for transfer to your hotel in Galway. Galway is just over 2 hours from Dublin and on arrival and check in at your hotel the rest of the day can be spent at your leisure getting to know the “City of the Tribes” Galway City – a city and an experience to be savored and remembered. The historic city of the tribes dances to a beat uniquely its own. There is a certain chemistry and vibrancy to this friendly University City, which many delight in, and few forget. Music, festivals, horse racing, pubs, restaurants, shops, theatres and most of all Galway people, combine to create this atmospheric medieval city of culture.
Day 2
Today we take a tour along the scenic coast of County Clare, on the Wild Atlantic Way. We drive across the landscape of the Burren, which is a fascinating geographical region by the Atlantic Ocean and a haven for people who like diversity in plants. In the crevasses you see flowers and plants which are usually to be found in subtropical and even artic regions. Continue to the famous Cliffs of Moher with walls falling 702 feet straight down into the Atlantic Ocean. Continue to Bunratty Castle and Folk Village. The village is a replica of a typical Irish Village of the 1920’s. Nearby is ‘Durty Nellys’, the oldest pub in Ireland from the 12th century. Return to Hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Golf or Connemara
After breakfast depart on an excursion to the west of Galway to see the Connemara region. As Oscar Wilde put it “Connemara is a savage beauty” This unique area is characterized by a multitude of lakes, mountains and bog lands. From the rugged Twelve Bens mountain range in the north through lake-rich Roundstone Bog to the golden beaches reaching out into the Atlantic Ocean, you'll know you're in Connemara by the light that constantly changes the mood and tone of the landscape. In the afternoon we will visit Kylemore Abbey and Victorian Walled Garden. Visit the restored rooms of the Abbey and learn about its history of tragedy, romance, education, innovation and spirituality. Explore the 6 acre Victorian Walled Garden with its delightfully restored garden buildings. Discover woodland and lakeshore walks that will take you on a beautiful journey through our 1,000 acre estate. The beautiful Gothic Church is a short walk from the Abbey, nestled nearby is the Mausoleum where Mitchell and Margaret Henry are buried side by side.
Day 4 or Free Day
This morning you will take the ferry to the Aran Islands. The three Aran Islands, Inis Mór Island (Big Island), Inis Meáin Island (Middle island) and Inis Oírr Island (East island) are situated in a north westerly, south easterly direction at the mouth of Galway Bay, Ireland. You will be visiting Inis Mór Inis. The islands are famous for their geological formation, historical monuments and their linguistic and cultural heritage. The Irish(Gaelic) language is still spoken here and in the twenty first century all native born islanders are bilingual in both Irish and English. Return ferry to Galway for overnight in your Hotel.
Day 5
This morning you will enjoy some free time in Galway and afterwards you will travel through the market town of Ennis to Killimer. Here we will board the Shannon Ferry to Tarbert in the Kingdom of Kerry. We travel onwards to Tralee probably best known for the Rose of Tralee International Festival. Spend some time exploring Tralee – your home for the next 3 days. The Kerry County Museum has galleries on local history and a re-creation of medieval Tralee. Nearby, the National Folk Theatre of Ireland, Siamsa Tíre, puts on Irish music and dance performances.
Day 6:
This morning you will take a tour of the Ring of Kerry. This is a truly spectacular drive due to the constant changes in countryside. Rivers, high mountains, extensive bogs are intermingled with quaint little towns and villages. One of these is Waterville where Charlie Chaplin often went on vacation. See the colourful village of Sneem, Molls Gap and of course Ladies View. Overnight in your Hotel in Tralee.
Day 7 Golf or Di**le
For the golfers among us take the opportunity to play on of Irelands many Links courses. A true test of any golfers ability. For the non – golfers we will take a drive to the spectacular Di**le Peninsula. Mt Brandon overlooks the peninsula and this spectacular scenic driver has it all, fuschia lined country lanes, prehistoric ring forts and beehive huts, sandy coves and treacherous cliffs. Coumeenole Beach just north of Slea Head, was one of the locations used for Ryans Daughter and in more recent times the area was a location for the Star Wars films. In the afternoon spend some time in the colourful town of Di**le. Return to Tralee for dinner and overnight.
Day 8
This morning you will travel the short distance to Blarney Castle and kiss the stone that is believed to endow the person with the gift of ‘flattery.’ The castle and garden of Blarney are approximately 10 kilometres west of Cork. The castle of a good example of the Anglo-Norman artr of building and the garden is worth a visit. We then travel on to Kilkenny – the marble city. See Kilkenny castle or St. Canices Church or just explore the vibrant streets that the city has to offer. Overnight in your hotel in Dublin
Day 9: Free Day in Dublin with Guinness Storehouse
Ireland’s capital city is an intriguing melting pot of international cultures, eclectic architecture, warm and welcoming locals and not so warm weather. With its ever-growing immigrant population, Dublin has become inundated with a host of international influences resulting in a wealth of ethnic restaurants serving up an array of exotic culinary delights. Despite this multi-culturalism, Dublin has managed to preserve much of its traditional Irish culture, particularly evident in its fine literary history and fascinating folklore. While the city is over thousand years old, it has a decidedly 21st-century feel - glitzy shopping centres, and state-of-the-art skyscrapers exist alongside the city’s myriad ancient cathedrals, Georgian squares, castles, and historical monuments. Once these sites have been ticked off the list, pop into one of Dublin's legendary pubs, order a Guinesss, and strike up a conversation with one of the friendly locals. They are a charismatic bunch whose wit and warmth is so welcoming that you are unlikely to ever want to leave! In the afternoon visit Guinness Storehouse for a tour of the world famous brewery and get to have a pint in the gravity bar which overlooks the whole city.

TEN REASONS TO USE A TRAVEL AGENT

Here are 10 reasons that help explain why that is, from a customer’s perspective.
1.Accountability.

A travel agent’s job is on the line with every trip. Travel agents have a boss to answer to—or they are the boss—and they are a real person clients can speak with to works things out.
2.Knowledge.

Travel agents have been doing the job for years and know all the ins and outs. Traveling to Europe for the first time? Instead of deciding where to go based on anonymous comments on a website, speak to someone who does this for a living and knows what they’re talking about.
3.More for your money.

When booking an expensive trip, you want to see everything and experience the best a city has to offer. A travel agent can ensure that your dollars go a long way—and make sure you don’t miss that amazing restaurant down the street, or the special event going on the day you will be in town. A travel agent knows where to go and when.
4.Setting an Itinerary.

While some people enjoy “just winging it,” a travel agent can give a clear-cut schedule of what will be happening on a day-to-day basis, and keep clear records of everything that is included in the trip.
5.Budgeting.

A travel agent can help map out exactly how much a trip will cost, so there are no surprises. Does that excursion on Monday include lunch, for example, or do you have to buy your own? Does it pay to take the drinks package on the cruise ship, or pay for the excursions in advance? A travel agent can guide you and save you money.
6.Insurance.

Things happen. A travel agent can offer insurance in a number of ways, from guaranteeing that your hotel is safe and the company running the excursion won’t rob you, to actually advising on which insurance policies you need, from trip cancellation to medical emergencies. They also insure that you have the correct travel documents, so you don’t end up missing your plane or cruise. And when things do go wrong, travel agents have the resources and the contacts to get you to the head of the line.
7.Resources

At the touch of travel agents’ fingertips they have resources a traveler simply does not. Yes, we have the internet, but there is so much still left unknown, especially in places that are undiscovered.
8.Exclusivity.

Let’s face it, we all want to be a little bit different. A travel agent knows the new destinations and the new places in them —and often they can get you in. Through their partners, they also often get freebies for their customers that range from a free drink to an exclusive admission to a hot event.
9. Time savings.

Spending hours and weeks researching the perfect trip can take up a ton of time during a busy work week. A travel agent will spend a little time getting to know you and what you are looking for, and then put together an entire vacation customized for you.
10. Leverage.

Can’t book a room at a place you really want? Had a last minute addition to a trip but all the rooms are booked? No problem. Travel agents spend years developing long-term relationships, and travel companies understand how important their repeat business is. Travel agents have leverage with most hotel companies and resorts, and they are more likely to get what they want than a single consumer.

In short, if you have never visited a travel agent, you are missing out on a chance to save time and hassles and aggravation—and often, money as well.

RIVER BARONESS
Day 1:
Paris
Arrive at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, where you will be transferred to the ship.
Day 2:
Vernon (Giverny), Les Andelys
FEATURED EXCURSIONS: Monet’s Giverny and hike to Château Gaillard

Visit Monet’s home in his beloved village of Giverny, where he lived and worked for more than 40 years. When Monet bought the property, most of it was an orchard; he transformed it over the years into the enchanted vision that he painted, essentially creating each work of art twice: once as a living garden and again as a painting. Stroll through the grounds and admire the familiar Japanese bridge and water garden that inspired him. Though the town suffered bomb damage during WWII, you’ll still be able to recognize many scenes from the master’s iconic paintings. Step even further into the past with a hike to Château Gaillard. Your adventure takes you to the dramatic white-stone remains of Richard the Lionheart’s 12th-century stronghold. You’ll be rewarded with stunning views of the river and surrounding countryside. In the evening, enjoy a Captain’s Welcome Reception and Gala Dinner.
Note: Giverny will be closed during the March 15, 22, 29, and November 1 cruise departure dates. Instead of Giverny, guests will visit the gardens of Versailles.
Day 3:
Rouen (Normandy Beaches)
FEATURED EXCURSIONS: Full-day Normandy Beaches with choice of Arromanches 360° Cinema or Juno Beach and Canadian Centre or Tapestry Museum in Bayeux

Normandy’s proximity to the sea has made it the site of many battles, including the famous D-Day Invasion by Allied forces during WWII. Before visiting the beaches of Normandy, you’ll experience the spectacular circular cinema at Arromanches; by surrounding you with images from archival material, the 360° cinema puts you in the middle of the action. Or choose to visit Juno Beach, where the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division landed, and take in the exhibits at the Canadian Center. Or, after spending time in Arromanches, drive to Bayeux to see the famous 11th-century tapestry depicting the Battle of Hastings. Continue to the Allied landing sites at Omaha Beach before visiting a haunting reminder of the Allied forces’ hard fight for freedom—the American Cemetery. Located in Colleville-sur-Mer, near the section of coastline designated “Omaha Beach,” the cemetery and memorial honor American soldiers who lost their lives while fighting in Europe. Should you wish to pay your respects, you’ll be provided with flowers.
Day 4:
Rouen
FEATURED EXCURSIONS: Choice of Rouen walking tour or exclusive guided “Go Active” bicycle ride along the Seine River

Rouen, founded in pre-Roman times and the medieval capital of the region, has managed to preserve many notable buildings despite being invaded, conquered, and bombed countless times over the years. Your visit will take you to the stunning Gothic cathedrals, the haunting medieval quarter, and the Gros Horloge, a Renaissance clock tower. The walk ends at Vieux Marché, where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake by the English in 1431. Or enjoy a bike ride along the Seine with an expert guide. The Seine River banks are popular with locals, and cycling on the docks is part of the quintessential Rouen experience.
Day 5:
Caudebec-en-Caux (Honfleur)
FEATURED EXCURSION: Honfleur walking tour

After crossing the river delta via the majestic Normandy Bridge, travel through the Calvados countryside to Honfleur, a charming French harbor town re-created in paintings by such artists as Monet, Courbet, and the painter who inspired so many others to come to Honfleur: Eugene Boudin. Charles Baudelaire, the French poet, called Boudin’s stormy pictures of the harbor “meteorological beauties.” Tour the former smugglers’ harbor of Vieux Bassin—the most frequently painted scene in Honfleur—and St. Catherine’s church, which was built by shipwrights.
Day 6:
Conflans-Sainte-Honorine (Auvers sur Oise)
FEATURED EXCURSION: “Vincent van Gogh’s Footsteps” walking tour of Auvers-sur-Oise

Find yourself in Auvers-sur-Oise, following the footsteps of impressionist master Vincent van Gogh. The ill-fated artist spent just the last two months of his life here, but in that time he painted many of its buildings, including the Town Hall, the church, and the home of his physician, Dr. Gachet. Your guide will transport you to the 19th century and give you a true-to-life sense of the artist’s final days as you stand in the very place where Van Gogh set his easel. You can see the former inn where he stayed until his death in 1890 and then visit his tomb in the “new cemetery” (inaugurated in 1858). Van Gogh is buried beside his brother, Theo, who died a year later. In the evening, enjoy a Captain’s Farewell Reception and Gala Dinner.
Day 7:
Paris FEATURED EXCU
EXCURSIONS: Choice of Paris city tour or exclusive “Do as the Locals Do” Île de la Cité and Latin Quarter walking tour

Your panoramic city tour includes the most Parisian of sights: the grand Champs-Élysées, where you will pass the Arc de Triomphe before stopping at the Champs de Mars for an opportunity to photograph the Eiffel Tower. Then continue on to the Place Vendôme, Hôtel de Ville, Notre Dame Cathedral, and the Latin Quarter. Then it’s on to Les Invalides, the Louvre courtyard, and Luxembourg Gardens, where you can stretch your legs and see a slice of Parisian life. Or, take a more intimate look at Parisian daily life with a walking tour of the Île de la Cité, the historic center of Paris, which is home to the famous Notre Dame Cathedral. Your tour also includes a stop by a traditional open-air market to shop as the Parisians do for bread, cheese, and other regional delicacies.
