Just back from 5 incredible days hiking the Continental Divide Trail from Berthoud Pass to Argentine Peak with two of the most fantastic people you could hope to find! This route took us over the twin 14,000’ Grays and Torreys Peaks, the two highest points on the divide. Thanks Emily and Lucas for taking on this epic adventure with us.

The Break Down:
5 Days. 55 miles. 17,400’ climbed. 9 Summits Tagged.

Day 1: Berthoud Pass to the Henderson Mine - 8.25 miles
Day 2: The Henderson Mine to Jones Pass - 10.25 miles
Day 3: Jones Pass to Stevens Gulch - 17.25 miles
Day 4: Stevens Gulch to Argentine Pass (over Grays and Torreys Peaks) - 11.25 miles
Day 5: Argentine Pass to Guanella Pass - 9.65 miles

This route is stunning with more than 80% of the hiking high above tree-line along the high ridge of the Continental Divide.

We were able to hike with light packs and enjoy the movement thanks to the dedicated work of the Sojourner support crew. We had great weather with lovely afternoons and evenings spent in fully supported mountain camps.

We guide this route as…
🥾A self supported backpacking trip
🥾with supported base camps
🥾fully lodge based

You get to choose the right style for you!

An evening climb at Duncan’s Ridge started with rainy weather but followed up with a perfect golden hour and sunset views. It was all for this gals’ climb session. A perfect summer time evening!

We had lovely conditions on Mount Sherman two weeks ago! Spring is one of our favorite times to climb 14ers. With a good freeze overnight and an early start the snow actually makes many of them much less strenuous, turning difficult scree fields into firm sidewalks.

Of course the snow brings challenges as well and you still need to be aware of Avalanche hazards and more serious fall potentials on steep slopes. An ice axe, crampons and even a rope are advisable on many routes!

A gorgeous day in Eldorado Canyon last season. We are so psyched for more. Rock season is here! This is the top of the mega-classic Yellow Spur (5.9), it’s a great route for the budding multi-pitch trad climber ready to start pushing into a bit more challenging terrain. Don’t let the 5.9 grade fool you, there are some sections that require good route finding a handful of committing moves with high exposure. Eldo has a stout reputation and this climb fits the profile.

Is anyone else looking forward to 14er season? We are!

What’s a 14er? Any mountain whose summit is 14,000 feet above sea level, but also not more than 15,000 feet… that would be a 15er and we don’t have those in Colorado 😉

This is Grays and Torreys Peaks. They are two of the most popular 14ers in Colorado due to their proximity to Denver and that you can bag them both pretty easily in one day.

Another fun fact: Grays is the highest point on the North American Continental Divide!

We had the route to ourselves. Do you want to know how?

We took a far less traveled route from Loveland Pass over Grizzly Peak. It is epic and there is rarely anyone on it. One more perk of going with a guide, we know how to avoid the crowds!

So what 14ers do we guide?
🏔️ Longs Peak
🏔️ Grays and Torreys Peaks
🏔️ Mount Sherman

The sun is out and spring rock climbing is here!

We had a fantastic day out with our friend Espen climbing in Eldorado Canyon State Park. We have been working on trad climbing skills over the last couple of years and Espen lead the first two pitches of the Bomb on our way to the summit of the Wind Tower. Way to go dude!

Spring skiing is on! This is such a good time of year to get out and enjoy some snow sliding. Warm days are starting to stabilize the snowpack but we still get fresh snow as warm April storms roll through the state. As always watch the avy forecast and be wise in your decision making but there is some great skiing to be had out there!

It has been a windy couple of weeks in the mountains! We have been picking our hikes carefully so we don’t get blown away. One of the upsides of the wind is that exposes incredibly beautiful lake ice.

From early winter to early spring the alpine lakes of Rocky Mountain National freeze with ice that can range from a few inches to many feet thick. They make great hiking destinations and you will even see the occasional person ice skating.

In the cold months it is generally completely safe to cross the ice but if there have been multiple days with temperatures above freezing proceed with caution and if you any notice any slushy sections do not proceed further.

If you see open water that is a good sign it’s time to stay off the ice.
