Some more Scottish highlands exploration, based out of Ullapool - a ferry port and fishing town. The whole area is stunning, with mountains and lochs and farms and rivers. We found a gorge with waterfalls, beautiful gardens, some amazing scenic overlooks, winding roads, and charming white-washed buildings.

Exploring the area around Nairn, including:
- the ruins of Elgin Cathedral, which they removed the waterproof roof from in the 1500s and low and behold, the roof eventually collapsed. So it’s been ruins like this since the early 1600s.
-walked though downtown Elgin to find a coffee shop.
- enjoyed the beautiful flowers at the Biblical Garden in Elgin (that foxglove is as tall as me!!)
- a walk through the Culbin Forest which has grown on old sand dunes to a view tower.
- to the park and beach in Nairn.
- and walking back to our lovely bnb the Invernairne through the sweet gate that opens on the waterfront.

First glimpses of Nairn! We are staying at a lovely B&B for the next 3 nights on the coast, so as soon as we checked in we made a beeline for the beach, despite it being just 55 degrees outside! Such a lovely coastline, and a sweet little path from the hotel leading us down. It was low tide - beautiful rocks and seaweed!
Travel note: we decided to train from Edinburgh to Inverness, and then rent a car from Inverness. But our train was cancelled after the first three stops due to a problem on the line, so we had to wait over an hour at the Perth station while they got a bus to come pick us up! Thanks for taking care of us - everyone was so kind and made sure we got where we needed to go.

A full day in Edinburgh- hardly enough! So we maximized: wandered the Royal Mile, the old and “new” town (build in the 1820s in a grid), explored the Castle, and took photos where everyone was taking photos... We ate haggis (they even had a delicious vegan version!), found amazing pubs, listened to bagpipes, bought tourist stuff, spent too much money and time in a proper bookstore, and walked over 6 miles! Pretty traditional tourist day, which I enjoy every once in a while. 🥰

Another full day exploring the Faroe Islands - from Gjogv to Saksun to Witches Finger - in the sun, rain, wind and clouds. When the sun comes out the green is so green! We didn’t let the weather stop us - brought all the gear and used it all. My fav purchases in preparation: OR winter hiking pants that are fleece-lined and the water just beads right off of, and Pendleton Chelsea rain boots - no worries for puddles or mud.

Exploring the North Islands of the Faroe. The rain stopped and the wind blew so much we got glimmers of sun! Such a unique landscape- green but no trees, sheep everywhere, steep hillsides covered in running water, and well kept villages dotting the coves.

Welcome to Torshavn, the quaint coastal capital “city” of the Faroe Islands. The sod-roof homes are so common here I’ve already almost stopped noticing them! A few cute cafes and a great bookshop, as well as a busy harbor with all sizes and manner of boats.

Come walk with me along the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Take in the view from all the different spots. Picture yourself being on the edge of this vast expanse - almost as if it were an ocean. Feel the breeze and hear the river far below. Soak up the sun and take a deep breath. And when you are ready to book your visit, let me know!

We’ve arrived in São Jorge! It’s our 4th time visiting the Azores but our first time to another island in the archipelago other than São Miguel, which is the biggest island. Whereas São Miguel has 140,000 inhabitants, São Jorge has just over 8,000. We are staying in these perfect little casitas with this incredible view across the way to the island of Pico, which is also the tallest mountain in all of Portugal, and is 7,700 ft. Follow along for some new island adventures!
