Spot the reef's sharpest locals! Doctorfish and Ocean Surgeonfish are cruising the shallow, vibrant reefs right here in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea. Famous for their "scalpel-sharp" tail spines, these nature-made surgeons are a must-see.
- Hidden Blade: They get their name from a razor-sharp, retractable spine at the base of their tail used for defense.
- Reef Gardeners: They are the "doctors" of the ocean, tirelessly grazing on algae to keep our local corals clean and healthy!
- Shape Shifters: Doctorfish are known for their cool vertical body stripes and ability to rapidly change color from dark to pale.

Looking to spot a true ocean giant on your next snorkeling adventure? 🌊✨
Meet the Atlantic Tarpon—often called the "Silver King" because of its massive, mirror-like scales that reflect the beautiful Florida sunlight! 👑🐟
Here are a few reasons why seeing one of these legends in the wild will absolutely blow your mind:
- They are massive: These aren't your average reef fish. Tarpon can grow up to 8 feet long and weigh over 300 pounds!
- Superpower survival: They have a modified swim bladder that lets them gulp air directly from the surface. This cool trick lets them hunt in low-oxygen waters where other predators can't survive. 🤿💨
- Action-packed neighbors: They love hanging out in our coastal waters, estuaries, and rivers, hunting for schools of smaller fish.
When you snorkel with us, you aren't just looking at coral—you're swimming in the kingdom of the Silver King. Ready to check this bucket-list fish off your list?

Meet the eco-engineers of Fort Lauderdale’s reefs: the Parrotfish! 🪸✨If you've ever snorkeled or dived with us out on our local reefs, you’ve probably heard a distinct crunch, crunch, crunch sound underwater. That’s not your dive gear—it’s the parrotfish hard at work! These stunning, neon-colored fish use their fused, beak-like teeth to scrape algae off the coral. In doing so, they keep our local marine ecosystem healthy and clean. But their coolest superpower? They are responsible for our beautiful, soft sand beaches! A single large parrotfish can p**p out up to 200 to 900 pounds of fine white sand per year as they digest the limestone from the reef. 🏖️💨We spot these colorful characters on almost every single trip—from brilliant stoplight parrotfish to massive rainbow parrotfish.Ready to see them up close?

We are sharing some photos of spotted eagle rays we have seen on our dives over the years. 🌊📸 Such beautiful creatures!
Did you know that spotted eagle rays are basically the underwater version of birds? Unlike other rays that glide along the sea floor, these majestic creatures "fly" through the open ocean, flapping their powerful pectoral fins like wings. They can even launch themselves entirely out of the water, leaping high into the air! 🦅✨
Every single spotted eagle ray has a completely unique pattern of white spots, just like a human fingerprint. Getting to swim alongside them and witness those striking patterns up close is always an unforgettable moment.
Drop a 💙 if you love spotting these ocean beauties as much as we do! 🤿👇
