I get so many requests for restaurant ideas for our guests when they are visiting Fort Morgan. I should really make an official form to send out but for now, here are some of our suggestions. Certainly not all….there are so many more seafood restaurants right on the gulf shores strip but here are some aren’t right in the middle of all the congestion.
Nicer restaurants:
Tin Top (located over bridge towards Foley and then a left towards bay. Nestled in trees in an old house. It has a great menu, good wine list, indoor and outdoor seating and can accommodate large crowds for a good eating)
Villagio in the Wharf (upscale northern Italian with emphasis on seafood) located in the wharf with shopping and other attractions including the large Ferris wheel that is a hit with younger kids) There is also Ginny Lane that is a good for lunch or dinner and casual, right across the street from Villagios
Perch -located in the newly built Hilton Lodge of Gulf State park. It is a nice restaurant with beautiful views, especially on the covered patio deck over looking the gulf.
Fisher’s at Orange Beach Marina - very nice. Overlooks the marina with some impressive yachts. The upstairs is fine dining (but perfectly comfortable in white jeans and a nice blouse.) and then downstairs is called fishers dockside…where you can grab sandwiches and such for taking on the boats or can hang out at their bar and eat and enjoy the docks.
Sunset Cork Room - cute, quaint smaller restaurant with good wine parings. Something for everyone. Has a small bar and sometimes there will be an acoustical guitar player doing some soft tunes.
There is Coast Restaurant in Beach Club just two miles east of our subdivision. The closest nice restaurant for sure, but you have to call and schedule it and get access to the Beach Club.
Others that are nice but casual:
Cobalt (great views on back bay in orange beach. Good to incorporate a dolphins boat trip because they set off right at the side of Cobalts. We have used Surfsup Dolphin cruise twice and loved it both times. Truly memorable. They let you take a cooler and it is only $12-15 per person for the “sunset cruise” from 6-7:30. Times may change during different seasons. Sit on the back and watch a dozen dophins jump out of the water in your wake.)
Cosmos or Lunas are both fun casual fare
Lulu’s (JImmy Buffetts sister. Large family friendly with music and casual fare. Food is good, not great, but typical. People seem to love it.)
Acme oyster bar (same as in New ORLEANS)
Nikis Seafood and Thai ( we love the fish curry, calamari, shrimp, Tom yum soup…) the interior is very non descript but the food is great if you love Thai)
GT’s on the Bay - very family friendly and has a large outdoor area with music and a kids playground (enclosed) right there to watch them without getting up from your table.
For closer options, since we are 14 miles down the peninsula in Fort Morgan and not on the main pass, we have some casual options close by:
Sassy Bass Amazing Grill ( this is 2 miles west of us. They have good food and drinks just don’t let the offer you the premium margarita….i made that mistake last year and it was a $20 or $25 drink… and I had 2. 😂 The regular margarita is fine. Behind Sassy BAss restaurant is Sassy Bass Market. This is your best friend! They have almost everything you need. You will likely purchase groceries at one of the big chains to get your started but this will be so convenient to grab things throughout the week without having to drive back in town. They have steaks, chicken, seafood options, deli meat and cheese, some vegetable and fruits, lots of canned and groceries items, a walk in beer fridge, take and bake pizzas (great) and donuts and much more. They also have a liquor store behind that.
Tacky Jacks 2 is further down towards the actual Fort Morgan Fort and the Ferry. It has good sunset views from the upper deck. Try a bushwhacker drink (tastes like milk shake but with alcohol) They have a downstairs that is an adult bar that does karaoke on Thursday and they have pool tables down there too.
Behind the Pines restaurant- This is aptly named because it is behind The Pines convenience store (not good….stick with Sassy Bass Market) but the restaurant is very casual and easy.
Village Hideaway - this is 2 miles east of us right inside the entrance to Beach Club before the gates. You will see food trucks outside in front of it also. They have an ice cream food truck that is great. Village hideaway has great salmon, tacos, sandwiches….it is a casual fun sport bar like space that has music sometimes too.
Kiva Dunes Grill - this is just one mile east of us right inside Kiva Dunes Golf Course entrance. It is the club house area on right and they have brunch and lunch and what they call early bird dinner only. They close at 6pm. Good brunch and lunch though. Nice veranda overlooking beautiful golf course.
Back in town next to Rouses (good grocery shopping) is Fish River Grill. Great burgers, po boys, and fish. They serve you a complimentary little cup of their claim to fame soup….called Swamp soup. We love it and order a galloon of it when we have a group of us down there, especially during colder months and make corn bread to go with it. So good.
Another fun day restaurant we like is Woodside Restaurant that is right past Walmart and then just inside the Gulf State park. It is a fun place to hang out. They have outdoor space with ping pong, corn hole, horseshoes, board games, puzzles, music platform, and more. You can also try to rent bikes just outside (actually free to rent bike, but you have to download an app) and ride through the swamps and trails. Beautiful.
If anyone likes beer….a must is Big Beach Brewery. They have great beer, a good atmosphere but you have to grab a pizza or to go food from somewhere else and then go hang out. They have music and some corn hole games. Outdoor area and kids are welcome to run around.
IF you have a favorite that I didn’t list….because there are so many….please post below and share what you like about it.
