The Stiff Pen Shell, Atrina rigida, is adorned with inrolled spines that it no doubt uses to discourage hungry foragers. It is a common mud-dwelling bivalve. This exquisite specimen was recovered from Roatan Island's north coast in the Bay Islands of Honduras.

This handsome cone is one of the most vividly colored of all Caribbean Conidae.
The Carrot Cone, C. daucus, may tend toward lemon yellow, spots and dashes, white bandings on scarlet and orange body whorls, with maculated or unicolored spires.
The animal will be a perfect match when the shell is its usual rich red.
The shell bears a distinctive ridged periostracum.

Bursa rhodostoma thomae, St. Thomas Frog Shell, has a delicately bluish mauve-colored animal with yellow spots and prune-tipped, swaying tentacles, protruding from its cumbersome housing.
The St. Thomas Frog Shell is an uncommon and beautiful species of Bursa which lives hidden under rocky crevices.
This specimen was recovered during a night dive in 55 feet of water from a coral rock wall in a semi-enclosed bay off Union Island's west coast.

Morphologically the uncommon and colorful T. cedonulli domenicanus varies considerably within populations. These sand-loving specimens were recovered during night dives in 55-75 feet of water on Union Island.
A single reservation remains available for my only trip to this hidden gem in the eastern Caribbean. Trip dates are August 27th - September 5th.
