Obwohl nur 25 Autominuten vom Haus entfernt, scheint dieser Park kaum bekannt zu sein unter Floridabesuchern. Ein erhöht angelegter Holzweg führt durch eine Sumpflandschaft mit ganz besonderem Reiz. Wenn man sich Zeit lässt, kann man Schlangen, Waschbären, Schildkröten und sogar Aligatoren entdecken.
Dieses Naturschutzgebiet ist ein absolutes Erlebnis für Naturfreunde.

Der Eintritt in den Park ist frei, parken kostet 1$ pro Stunde. Wer mehr über
Flora und Fauna erfahren möchte, kann auch an einem "guided walk" teilnehmen, der ebenfalls kostenfrei ist. 90 Minuten sollte man auf jeden Fall einplanen.

Visit Fort Myers' Manatee Park to see the endangered Florida Manatee in a non-captive, natural environment. Between November and March is your best chance to view a great number of these unique animals from close distance.

Hours: Park is open year round. Visitor Center is open between 9:00 - 4:00.
Rate: Free admission.

Don’t miss this year’s Annual Christmas Boat Parade, which will take place at Salty Sam’s Marina in Fort Myers tonight.

The parade will begin at 6:10, going past Parrott Key Caribbean Grill, Big Game Waterfront Grill, Doc Ford’s, Bonita Bills, and then will head Northwest under the Sky Bridge. The parade will travel in and out of Siesta isles, then turn around at Pink Shell Resort near Bowditch Point, passing Baywalk Park, Nervous Nellies and Matanzas on the Bay Restaurant.

Please note that the J.N. Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel Island is closed due to the Government shut down. This also applies for all other National Parks and National Wildlife Refuges that are managed by the Interior Department. So make sure that you check whether your desired park is open before you start your trip in order to avoid disappointment.

Watch out for Burrowing Owls.

With an estimated 1000 nesting pair Cape Coral has the largest population of Burrowing Owls in the State.

At only 5-8.5 ounces and 7.5-11 inches tall, the Burrowing Owl is one of the smallest of all the owls, and of the 171 species of owls worldwide, the only owl that lives underground.

There is a burrow with a pair of Burrowing Owls just across the street.

So go and check out these cute little fellas.
