A Final Flight into the Sunset
Little did we know, as we settled into our seats aboard the Delta flight departing Cape Town, that we were about to witness something truly special. High above the African skies and the vast Atlantic, Captains John and Tim were quietly piloting not just our aircraftโbut their final journey together after 35 remarkable years with Delta Air Lines.
Before that, both had answered the call in the U.S. Air Force, serving their country with the same dedication they later brought to every passenger they carried across the world.1
What began as an ordinary boarding turned into a profound privilege. These two seasoned aviators, with decades of experience guiding planes through every kind of weather and adventure, were closing one extraordinary chapter. Their hands steady on the controls, their wisdom in every announcement, they flew us home with the grace that only comes from a lifetime of service.
To John and Tim: thank you for your years protecting the skies in uniform and for every safe landing youโve delivered to countless families. Your retirement is well-earned, and the world feels a little steadier knowing pilots of your caliber have watched over it.
Congratulations, gentlemenโwhat a beautiful way to touch down after such an inspiring career. May your next adventures be just as uplifting.
