This was one of the small details I noticed for the first time while taking one of the Downtown Fort Worth Walking Tours .

Right beside the Flatiron Building is Panther Fountain, a quiet downtown spot that connects back to one of Fort Worth’s oldest nicknames: Panther City.

The story goes back to an old insult that claimed Fort Worth was so quiet, a panther could sleep in the street. Instead of letting that line define the city in a negative way, Fort Worth embraced it.

Now, the panther has become part of the city’s identity.

I had walked around this area before, but the tour made me slow down and actually notice details like this. It is a small fountain, but it carries a very Fort Worth story.

More from the Downtown Fort Worth Walking Tour coming soon.
