The Petticoat affair was a U.S. political scandal from 1829 to 1831 involving President Andrew Jackson's Cabinet and a social boycott of Secretary of War John Eaton and his wife, Peggy Eaton. She & John lived in Franklin, at a home located on East Main Street (at the site of the present-day St. Philip Catholic Church at the corner of East Main and 2nd Avenue South), and she frequently visited her mother-in-law's historic residence nearby on 125 3rd Ave. Some say she never left. 👻
