This week we are featuring Staurolite

Staurolite is a beautiful metamorphic mineral that can be found in western North Carolina, North Georgia and Virginia.

In terms of crystallized specimens almost all are seen as twinned crosses. Hence the more colloquial name "Fairy Crosses"

This week we are featuring Fluorite!

Here is a fantastic example of the mineral from the Elmwood Mine in Tennessee.

This mine has produced some of the best fluorite in the country.

This is a personal collection piece from our owner Sean Price. It is very lustrous and is perched nicely on a bit of matrix with smaller white crystals of dolomite.

"Fossil Friday"
Today we have a Mercinaria Clam fossil from the famous Rucks Pit in Fort Drum Florida.

These specimens are known for having well formed calcite crystals inside while also preserving the origional structure of the shells.

This fossil is from the pleistocene aged Nashua Formation.
