Up in the piney woods of Washington Parish sits the friendly dairy town of Franklinton, and every October it throws one of the best parties in the state. 🎡 The Washington Parish Free Fair is the largest free fair in America, and it has been drawing folks home since 1911.

For one week the fairgrounds light up with a glowing midway, livestock barns, blue-ribbon pies, and the smell of funnel cakes drifting on the cool fall air. 🌽 At the heart of it all sits historic Mile Branch Settlement, a village of restored log cabins, a working gristmill, and a one-room church that carries you straight back to pioneer Louisiana. Families plan their whole autumn around it, and grown kids drive in from everywhere just to walk those grounds again.

Franklinton the rest of the year is quiet, green, and neighborly, the kind of small town where folks still wave from the porch. Fair week simply turns that warmth all the way up. 💛
