Big news from the Freeport Historical Museum!
SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!
Beginning March 4th, 2025, The Freeport Historical Museum will offer FREE ADMISSION to all visitors!
Established in 2009 by the late WWll veteran Nat Hickey, the Freeport Historical Museum celebrated its grand reopening in 2024 after a three-year restructuring, rebranding, and redesign project led by Museum – Main Street Director Wade Dillon. The Freeport Historical Museum covers local and regional history through a narrative timeline and original artifacts. Bilingual interpretive panels and museum quality display cases guide visitors through hundreds of years of history beginning with Wilma, a 3,500-year-old skull found in Oyster Creek, to today’s leading industry leaders.
Museums are vital to the community as they serve as a central hub for sharing and preserving local history, providing educational opportunities to all ages through exhibits and programming, and boosts the local economy through heritage tourism. As it is the mission of the Freeport Historical Museum to be inclusive in our approach to history and community, offering free admission to all visitors opens the door to continued growth, opportunity, and understanding for years to come.
The award-winning Freeport Historical Museum is located in Historic Downtown Freeport at 311 East Park Avenue. Hours of operation are Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to 4pm. Closed most federal holidays.
