It’s so let’s talk drinks! Just a short hour drive from our peaceful serenity in the swamp is the hustle and bustle of the French Quarter. New Orleanians are famous for passing a good time and known for their love of a good cocktail. Sazerac is the official drink of New Orleans (literally—legislation passed in June 2008 naming it so), the Sazerac can trace its origins back to early 19th-century druggist and freemason, Antoine Peychaud, who would host freemason meetings at his pharmacy and serve a mix of Sazerac de Forge Cognac, absinthe and his proprietary bitters. Visit the Sazerac Bar inside the Rosevelt Hotel in the French Quarter to indulge in all the history and flavors of the world’s first mixed drink!

Here’s our “Where to go Wednesday” tip of the week: Plantations are a great way to experience the state's deep and colorful history told through the area's unique architecture and rich countryside. Houmas House Plantation and Gardens was established in the late 1700’s with the main house being completed in 1840. Take a tour to learn about what life was like on a sugarcane plantation, stroll through the exquisite gardens, and grab a bite to eat at one of the property’s restaurants. Each plantation has its own snapshot into the past telling a story like no other. And each also has its own prior residents who won’t seem to leave…..👻👻👻

“What’s on the menu Monday??” Crawfish!! What was once considered the “poor man’s food” for being so cheap and readily available in the 1700’s, eventually crawfish became synonymous with Louisiana cooking. By the 20th century, crawfish boils became a spring tradition in Louisiana. In 1980, the legislature crowned crawfish as Louisiana’s state crustacean.
Stop at most any local seafood restaurant or market in the area and you can try them out for yourself! Not sure how to eat them? Well, you pinch the tail and suck the head, cher! 🦞🌽🥔🍺
