About three years ago, nung nagdecide akong mag move sa Canada as a student. I was really excited. Kase, Canada diba? Sobrang dami kong expectations. Good expectations. Kasi, let’s be honest, yung mentality natin pag abroad, mapera. Dollar sign lang nakikita mo. Lol and trust me I was the same.

Fast forward to the present, heto po ako. Yung mga pictures sa post na to, is my side job. Magshop ka para sa ibang tao, magbubuhat ng mabibigat na groceries, magdadrive, magdedeliver ng goods kahit nagsnow or maulan. Naranasan ko ding magcollect at magtulak ng carts sa grocery stores when I first started. Kase I need to make ends meet. I have never imagined na gagawin ko to dito. Life was way more luxurious and convenient when I was in the Philippines. Dito kase, di ako mahire sa high paying jobs at this time kasi hindi nag aalign yung education and experience ko sa demands ng nga companies.

Life overseas is not a piece of cake for everyone especially if you’re just starting.

Hwag tayong madeceive sa mga posts namin na kumakain kami sa labas, nag eenjoy, and all. kasi there’s more to it than that. Bago namin gawin yon, pagpapaguran muna namin at pag iisipan ng madaming beses.

Hwag tayong magalit kapag nag-NO kami sa mga demands ninyo, kase hindi nyo nararanasan yung lungkot, pagod, depression, at hirap dito sa abroad.

Medyo cliché na, pero totoo na nakakatakot talaga yung ”Mars, musta na?” Kase everytime na magno-NO kami sa inyo, alam namin na may sasabihin kayo. Na we feel bad for not being able to help, kahit hindi naman namin responsibilidad yon.

Pero thankful pa rin ako sa mga Mars na nangangamusta dahil they really wanna check on me. Thank you sa technology kasi we still stay in touch, pero kahit nakakatulong yung communication na yon, we still long for our family and friends’ presence especially sa mga panahong parang di mo na kaya at pasuko ka na.

Why am I sharing this? This is not only for myself, pati na rin ito sa ibang OFWs... Hindi malalaman ng isang tao ang totoong ibig sabihin ng “MAHIRAP SA ABROAD” hanggat hindi nila nararanasan.

Sa mga may pamilya or kaibigan sa abroad, why don’t you take your time to say “Musta na?” to them this Christmas to check on them kung kamusta na sila, at kung kaya pa ba? Trust me, malaking bagay na yon sa kanila.
