Orca Action Month is a time to celebrate the presence of the Southern Resident orcas in the Salish Sea and inspire action to address the many threats facing them.

Here’s how YOU can get involved.

LEARN:
👉 Orcas Action Month Film Series
Attend free documentary film screenings with Friday Harbor Film Festival. Learn about the Southern Resident killer whales as well as the salmon, rivers, kelp forests, and communities whose fates are bound to theirs.

INSPIRE:
👉 Orca Behavior Institute Art for Orcas: 20 Years Endangered
Look for life-sized dorsal fins displayed throughout the Salish Sea as part of a community art project honoring the Southern Resident killer whales. Created from a variety of materials, each fin features a QR code where you can learn about these iconic whales and how to support their recovery. The project aims to spark conversation, inspire learning, and celebrate our connection to the marine ecosystem.

ACT:
🐟 Support healthy salmon populations by making thoughtful seafood choices.
🚤 Give whales plenty of space and follow whale-wise boating guidelines.
♻️ Help keep plastic out of our waterways by choosing reusable items.
💙 Support organizations working to protect salmon, orcas, and the Salish Sea.

Calling all dog lovers! 🐶 Washington State Ferries has released a new pet policy that allows dogs in designated areas of the passenger cabin. There will be a six-week education and transition period before the new rules officially take effect on July 1. By then, onboard signage will clearly mark where pets are and aren’t allowed.

Now you can bring your pup along for the ride while enjoying those quintessential PNW views 🐾⛴️

Just be sure to keep pets on a leash at all times, clean up after them, and keep them off passenger seating. Pets are not allowed in indoor food service areas, including onboard galleys.
