The Loire Valley region of Fance is full of charm. It is most well-known for its chateaux – some 300 in fact.
One of the most recognized chateaux in the Loire Valley is the Chateau de Chambord. It has over 400 rooms, 84 staircases, and 282 fireplaces. It was started by Francois I as a hunting lodge (Seriously?) in the 16th century and was only used for about two months. Yes, it is true; he had a heart attack, and it was not completed until the reign of Louis IV in the 17th Century. The Chateau de Cande, another “fairytale look” chateau, hosted the wedding of Edward, Prince of Wales, to American divorcee Wallis Simpson on June 3, 1937. However, this region has much more to offer.
From its cities and towns, parks and gardens, churches, and some of France’s best wines to its UNESCO World Heritage site. , The UNESCO site is a designated stretch along the Loire River.
The Loire Valley is a great destination for architecture lovers and history buffs. As well, it is number 3 on National Geographic’s special edition of “100 Places That Will Change Your Life.”
