To all of our loyal guests and friends:

Crosswind Landing is taking a pause from hosting guests for 2023. After seven years of hosting guests, we're taking a break from renting to do some improvements and spend some time at the beach ourselves. Thank you so much for making Crosswind Landing a success and look forward to chatting again in the future!

Interested in climbing a lighthouse? While Cape Hatteras Lighthouse will be closed to climbing until later this summer, Bodie Island is open to climb tomorrow. Tickets are available online.

Also note that Ocracoke Light will be open more frequently this year. It's too small to climb, but when the base is open, you can pop in and look at the interior of the light.

Growing up going to beaches on the Jersey shore, it was beaten into me that dunes were strictly off limit to humans. Needless to say, this article surprised me a bit. While neither I nor Crosswind Landing is encouraging anyone to go off and play in the dunes, it's good to know that responsibly exploring Cape Hatteras National Seashore doesn't mean you can't explore some of the more out of the way spots. Dune walk responsibly!

Hatteras Island is an amazing place for seeing neat stuff in the sky. From stargazing to satellite spotting, and from aerial warfare training to meteor showers and natural light shows of distant thunderstorms, there's nothing better than enjoying a beautiful dark evening looking up and out.

Those of you who've seen Wes Snyder's work don't need me to tell you he is an awesome photographer. So it's no surprise that he captured this amazing time lapse photo of a recent Star Link rocket...

Amidst this COVID-19 world, I'm crossing my figures for Hatteras visitors this summer. In case you've been spending your time in quarantine watching Netflix's new geographically-challenged series "Outer Banks", NCDOT Ferries Division has hit social media with a crucial PSA: No matter how hard you try to futz with Google Maps routing options, you will not be able to take a ferry from Chapel Hill to the Outer Banks.

In case you’re bingeing ‘The Outer Banks’ on Netflix and wondering… no, there is not a North Carolina ⛴️ ferry route between Chapel Hill and the Outer Banks. But we can dream, can’t we?
