One of the worst droughts in recorded Colorado history hasn’t stopped us from getting out on the water.

Dillon Reservoir may be lower than normal, but the mountain views are just as incredible, the mornings are still glass calm, and there’s no better way to experience Summit County than from a kayak.

We’re launching daily from the Frisco Marina. Come see the lake from a different perspective while conditions are still beautiful.

The early bird gets the worm on Dillon Reservoir. 🌅

The water is usually glass calm until around noon, making the morning our favorite time to paddle. It may look chilly on paper, but with little to no wind and all of our cold-weather gear included at no extra cost—waterproof kayak jackets with neoprene cuffs, neoprene gloves, synthetic fleece jackets, and even spray skirts when needed—you’ll stay comfortable while enjoying one of Colorado’s most peaceful mornings.

With lower water levels keeping many power boats off the lake, it often feels like we have Dillon Reservoir all to ourselves. Come experience it before the afternoon breeze arrives.

Low water on Dillon Reservoir isn’t all bad. In fact, it often means fewer power boats, quieter coves, and a more peaceful paddling experience. The mountain views are as incredible as ever, and wildlife is often easier to spot when the lake is calm.

We’re launching guided kayak tours every day from the Frisco Marina. Whether you’re visiting Summit County or you’re a local looking to get out on the water, we’d love to show you why this is one of our favorite places to paddle.

One of the best parts about paddling in Southwest Florida is that the adventure doesn’t end when the tour is over.

Just a few miles from our launch site, I found this rare Reddish Egret hunting along the Marsh Trail. This photo was taken with my Sony ZV-E10 and a basic Sony 55–210mm lens from about 100 yards away.

I’ve always had a talent for buying camera equipment that’s just short of what I actually need, but with a little help from some editing software, I was able to clean up the image and pull out some of the detail.

For a bird that far away, I’ll take it.

Nature rewards patience.

People think we spend every day kayaking… but sometimes we’re just out here with the dog watching dolphins explode out of the water in front of the boat.

This place never gets old.

One second you’re cruising through the islands and the next dolphins are surfing the bow like they own the place. Meanwhile the mini Aussie is losing her mind in the front seat.

This is why we live in the Everglades. You truly never know what you’re going to see out here.
