After months with no sightings… they’re back! Today a young bull shark glided right toward the kayak in the clearest water we’ve seen all season. The mangrove nursery is coming alive again.

2.5 million acres — can you believe that? 🌿 That’s about the total area of protected public lands surrounding our office at the .

From west to east, we’re surrounded by an incredible lineup of wild places: Collier-Seminole State Park, Ten Thousand Islands National Wildlife Refuge, our own Port of the Islands neighborhood, Picayune Strand State Forest, Fakahatchee Strand Preserve, the Florida Panther National Wildlife Refuge, Big Cypress National Preserve, and finally, the crown jewel — Everglades National Park. 🐊🌴

Together, these state and federal lands form the largest protected ecosystem in Florida, and we’re privileged to call it home. ❤️

And if that’s not enough… there’s nearly four million acres stretching all the way toward Miami and Lake Okeechobee! We’ll try to explore it all someday — but for now, we’re happy just calling this wild paradise our backyard. 🚣‍♂️

UPDATE: Here comes the rain, right on track as of Sunday evening! It’ll continue to move through tonight into Monday off and on. Also during that stretch, a few storms could be strong to severe. If that occurs, the WINK Weather Team will immediately let you know. Let’s try to get some needed rain without anything too strong. That’s the goal! 🌧️
