Neely Henry Lake are home to regional championship fishing tournaments as well as being used for recreational boating, kayaking, and fishing. Noccalula Falls,

a 90-foot waterfall named after legend of Princess
Noccalula, sits inside the Gadsden City limits on Lookout Mountain. Noccalula Falls Park (fee to enter) is a top Alabama natural tourist attraction and the park includes botanical gardens, children's playground, mini-golf (separate fee), train rides, Pioneer Village, and a 200-space RV campground complete with country store & swimming pool. Also, the Black Creek Trail and its’ off-shoots provides walking, hiking, running, and mountain-biking year round. There are festivals and special events almost every weekend that bring excitement to the area for visitors and locals. The Alabama State Chocolate Festival in Rainbow City each April, or Gadsden Riverfest Music Festival each June are just two events that bring thousands of visitors to the area. "The Lookout Mountain Parkway" is a scenic highway that begins at the Falls and heads up Lookout Mountain for 90 miles to Chattanooga, TN. Each first Thursday through Sunday in August brings the "World's Longest Yard Sale" to the Park and up the Parkway and the Highway 127 corridor to Michigan. Tens of thousands of visitors begin their trek on this route in Gadsden at Noccalula Falls Park. Be sure to take a stroll through Gadsden's Historic Downtown main-street district. On Friday May 2nd during Downtown Gadsden First Friday the GMA: Gadsden Museum of Art will be hosting several new artists along with a 👉 glass blowing demonstration and 👉sidewalk chalk displays. The new exhibitions will feature Wade MacDonald and Ann Herbert, Bethany Moody, Jennifer Wallace Fields, Stacy Tabb, and 🎨 local student artwork by the True Colors Arts Program.

Wade McDonald and Herbert’s joint exhibition, “A Homily for the Pink Moon,” combines abstract paintings with contemporary architecture and clay sculptures.

Jennifer Wallace Fields, a visual artist and educator will be exhibiting her new body of work entitled “2 Cool 2 B 4gotten”. Fields is also the host of the APT show “Monograph,” which showcases various artists and artist venues throughout Alabama.

Bethany Moody is an educator and interdisciplinary artist that processes locally-sourced, reclaimed materials with craft-based techniques including natural dyeing and soft sculpture which can be seen in her exhibit “Today’s Sale Color.” North Alabama artist Stacy Tabb studied graphic design, drawing and printmaking in college. Her exhibit, “You Are What You Eat,” is comprised of multiple species of creatures, each depicted with their primary diet.

True Colors Arts Program was established in 2023 by The Etowah County Board of Education as a means of getting Art programming into schools that are often overlooked. Focusing on mental health and well-being, the program consists of students from Gaston High School, West End Elementary, and West End High School.

Muffinjaw Designs of Mobile, Alabama will be providing a glass blowing demonstration outside of our main entrance for everyone that is out celebrating First Friday along with chalk drawing by the JSU Art Department and the museum’s own after school program with their teacher Kayla Allen.

Light refreshments will be served and public restrooms are available for all First Friday visitors.
