Cars on the Route in Galena, Kansas represents Kansas on the commemorative set of Forever Stamps for the Centennial of Route 66. The photo with the KanOTex pump is from Cars on the Route. The Kanotex Refining Company began operation in Caney, Kansas, in 1909, and operated until 1953.

The stamps were released on May 5.

When Route 66 was decommissioned, downtown Galena, Kansas, emptied out.

In this excerpt, filmmaker John Paget recalls stopping at an abandoned gas station in 1996 and filming a rusty tow truck sitting out back—years before it became a "movie star."

But when four local women later bought the station and began restoring it, the truck was gone. See the full story of how they found it, and how it helped save Galena, in the new documentary:
ROUTE 66: THE MAIN STREET OF AMERICA.
