Today marks 120 years since the nation's worst natural disaster in history: The Great Storm of 1900.

The storm destroyed the unaware, unprepared island of Galveston, TX. How the people of Galveston recovered, rebuilt, and, through engineering marvels, protected the island and its residents from the onslaught of future hurricanes has gone down in history and shows the true resiliency of Galveston Island!

Check out the 1838 Michel B. Menard House. The house, built in 1838 and the oldest on the island, is in the Greek revival style. The furniture and furnishings, with few exceptions, all date from the first half of the 19th century (1800-1850s).

Thursday evening on the beach, So good to be back on the Island... First of all our thoughts and prayers are with our friends in the path of Hurricane Laura!! As far as the Island is concerned, we have been given a major break, 100 miles West and we would be in rescue and clean up mode ourselves, instead, it looks like this...
