🚨 ROYAL CARIBBEAN JUST DECLARED WAR ON CARNIVAL β€” AND TEXAS IS THE BATTLEFIELD.
Forget everything you thought you knew about cruising from Galveston.
Royal Caribbean isn't just adding ships to Texas β€” they are systematically taking over the port, one massive vessel at a time. And what they just announced should have every Carnival fan in the Lone Star State sitting straight up in their chair.
The world's largest cruise ship β€” Icon of the Seas β€” is leaving Miami and making Galveston its home starting August 2027. That's right. The ship that broke the internet. The ship that carries 7,600 passengers. The ship every cruiser on the planet is talking about β€” and it's coming to your backyard. FOX 26 Houston
But it doesn't stop there.
Icon of the Seas is approximately 36% larger and carries 41% more passengers than Carnival Jubilee β€” currently Texas's biggest ship. Royal Caribbean isn't sneaking in through the back door. They're kicking it wide open. Cruise Fever
Galveston is already expecting 445 ship calls in 2026, bringing nearly 2 million cruise guests to the port. And when Icon arrives? Those numbers are going to shatter records. Cruise Hive
Even Royal Caribbean's own CEO couldn't keep quiet about it. He told a crowd earlier, "We're not going to answer that question. But I can tell you β€” it's coming, baby."
Texas β€” they came for your port. And they mean business.
So here's the question everyone is debating right now πŸ‘‡
Are you Team Carnival or Team Royal Caribbean β€” and does Icon of the Seas change your answer? Drop it in the comments. This one's gonna get heated. πŸ”₯

I haven't been out on the roads today but the last week or so some lanes going southbound into Galveston have been closed for construction so just be prepared for some possible slow downs.

Heads Up

Traffic from FM 2351 to League City

Southbound towards Galveston to heavily congested due to road repairs.

Take Highway 3 or FM 146 to avoid this

This is a heads up for anyone traveling to Galveston this weekend.

Yesterday there was a tanker truck accident that caused substantial damage to the southbound lanes of IH-45 near Webster Texas. Today several lanes are still closed and they are trying to make repairs to the roadway from the fire. Traffic is slow in that area. I don’t know if it will still be like that tomorrow or Sunday.

Also this is Mardi Gras weekend and there will be a lot of parades and activities that may cause road closures or delays.

Plan on getting to Galveston early. They are predicting rain Saturday evening but it should clear out by Sunday.

Have a blessed weekend and a fantastic cruise.

Traffic Update for January 31 and February 1, 2026

I just drove through the area running errands. IH45 southbound into Galveston is backed up from just south of Dickinson Texas due to road construction and lane closures down to one lane. I am not sure if tomorrow it will be closed but I would suspect it will be as they are placing bridge supports across the Texas City exit.

Once you past League City exit 22 stay in the right lane and the Holland Road exit just past FM 517/Dickinson and stay on the feeder road. This is also the Buc-ee’s exit so if you are planning that stop this is a great option. (no I don’t work for them)

You can also not make a U-Turn back towards Houston Northbound because they have the intersection closed at FM 1764/FM 2004 to place the bridge supports across the intersection.

Update
well so far it looks like Houston may have missed getting the big ice storm.

It is below freezing in most areas but according to the
local news most roads remain clear.

It is raining and sleeting in some areas and they expect it to get worse but the roads in front of my house in Galveston county are not frozen.

Most of the ice that is being reported is in the northern areas of Harris County near the Intercontinental Airport so there is still a possibility of it causing travel delays.

Please just be careful and check local weather and travel providers for your travels and flights.

Weathers getting bad north of Galveston. Heard that many flights and buses have been canceled.

Anyone traveling should be prepared for cancellations.
