Pubs N’ Grubs - Was with Taste of the Strand -Takes on Houston: Scouting a New Favorite Stop!

Ever wonder how a food tour decides which restaurants make the cut? Here’s a behind-the-scenes bite from my latest scouting adventure—this time, Houston style.

Recently, Taste of the Strand was invited to check out a Houston restaurant as a potential stop for our tours. Naturally, I dove right in, sampling their flight of beers and, of course, their Reuben sandwich. Out of the beer flight, one brew was a standout—superb, with the kind of flavor that makes you want to linger over every sip. The others? Let’s just say I’ll be hunting for a better pairing, because when you find a Reuben this good, it deserves the perfect match.

And about that Reuben: I’m picky. Like with pizza, only a handful ever make my personal favorites list. This one? It’s up there. Acceptably stacked, tangy, and satisfying—one of the best I’ve had off the island, and I’ve tasted plenty on Galveston’s “island time.” I’m genuinely impressed, and that doesn’t happen often.

This spot might just likey earn a place as a featured stop on our Houston tour—or at least as one of my go-to recommendations. If you’re a Reuben fan or a beer lover, keep your eyes peeled for this addition. Taste of the Strand is all about uncovering hidden gems and sharing them with you—because the best food stories are meant to be.

I’m continuing to build up the original Pubs & Grubs tour on Galveston Island, focusing on making each stop memorable. Once that’s just right, I’ll be introducing two distinct cigar experiences—each with its own twist, and possibly a third variation down the line. These new offerings will roll out gradually, ensuring every addition is something special for our guests.

Brewchachos, the recent numbers which did not appear for some reason on the app were stupendous.

Almost wanted to do a margarita but more than pleaseded It was a beer flight

There also was a Chicken fajita style taco involved, so tasty at  Brewchachos Tacos & Cantina Galveston Island.

When it came to pizza the following day, others wanted to return for another.

But I craved in my subconscious mind a little Greek from Mama Teresa's Flying Pizza.

Wow, was the burger flavor — also adjacent here, I also got to see what a large footprint Stuttgarden tavern inside the mall venu looks like.

Just spent a weekend soaking up island time at Galveston’s iconic Moody Mansion, and wow-what a blend of history and hospitality! Walking through its 28,000 square feet of restored splendor, I felt transported to the turn of the century, surrounded by the legacy of one of Texas’ most influential families.

After the garage portion which I spent a considerable amount of time in, I realize how influential and important a historic people, home design and exact spot this is. It’s my opinion that had it not been for Mr Moody, Galveston Island may not have been what we are known to be today. Even after the Great Storm of 1900, his home, hope & vision was instrumental in Galveston‘s redevelopment.

Excited to share that we’re exploring creative ways to spotlight Moody Mansion in my upcoming collaborative marketing with local businesses.

If you haven’t experienced Moody Mansion, add it to your must-see list. The architecture, the stories, and the spirit of Galveston all come alive in this historic home.
