☐ Get a little too much sun

🌴 A reminder that you don't have to DO ALL THE THINGS in Galveston. 💙

You don't have to hit every attraction.

You don't have to spend every minute sightseeing.

You don't even have to leave The Blue Herron all day.

Sometimes vacation looks like sleeping late, making a big breakfast, sitting on the porch, talking for hours, taking an afternoon nap, and deciding what sounds good for dinner at 5:30.

And honestly?

That sounds like a pretty great vacation to us.💙

Galveston will still be here tomorrow.

🏡 Every old house has a story. The Blue Herron has a LOT of them. 💙

When The Blue Herron was built in 1868, Galveston was a very different place.

The island was growing rapidly, the port was bustling, and families like the Behrmans were building homes and businesses that would become part of Galveston's evolving neighborhoods.

But what fascinates us most is that this little cottage wasn't built to simply sit empty.

It was built as a home—and an investment.

Rebecka Behrman had the cottage constructed as a rental property, creating an income-producing asset at a time when women had far fewer opportunities to control property and finances independently.

More than 150 years later, we're still standing in that same little house.

The people have changed.
The neighborhood has changed.
Galveston has certainly changed.

But the house remains.

And every time we walk through those doors, we're reminded that we're not just taking care of a vacation rental.

We're taking care of a piece of someone's life. 💙

🌴 You know you live on Galveston Island when a little disturbance in the Gulf suddenly becomes part of your Tuesday plans. 😂🌧️

This thing really did pop up out of the blue!

Rain bands began making their way across the island yesterday, and we're settling in for a wet day as the system moves our way.

So what are Galvestonians doing?

✔️ Watching the radar
✔️ Checking the weather app approximately 47 times
✔️ And, of course, checking in with Hurricane Hal for the real deal—the no-hype, tell-us-what-we-actually-need-to-know version. 😂

Because when you live on an island, you learn pretty quickly that there’s a difference between:

"WE'RE ALL DOOMED!”🌪️😱

and

“Yep. Looks like we're going to get some rain.” 🌧️🤣

We'll take the latter, thank you very much!

Stay safe out there, Galveston! And maybe keep that umbrella handy. 🌴🌧️

🚢 If you’re sailing out of Galveston, you may only need ONE night on the island before boarding your ship.

And we completely understand!

While many Galveston vacation rentals require a 2-night minimum, The Blue Herron is happy to accommodate guests who only need one night. 🙌

Arrive a day early. Explore a little of Galveston. Enjoy dinner. Get a good night's sleep. Then wake up refreshed and ready to set sail. 🌴🚢
