Dear Yellowstone Visitors,
Please be patient, the entire area is in emergency mode.
If you were coming this week, and staying inside the park, Gardiner, Cooke City or Silver Gate, you can be sure that your tour, hotel reservations, etc., are indeed cancelled.
The companies will be in touch with you as soon as possible about refunds, rescheduling, etc.
Please give them a minute.
And when they contact you:
Please be kind if your dream vacation, activities and reservations are cancelled.
We know it’s horrible, and we are sorry for the loss and the econoic burden this can have on the individual families who planned to come here this month.
But to put things in perspective, it’s not nearly as horrible as seeing your friend’s house fall into the river.
The small towns of Gardiner, Silver Gate and Cooke City which border YNP, are the same towns you would have driven through to get to the park. They are all solely dependent on tourism and are currently complaining cut off from the world.
Now imagine running a small business and having to potentially refund an entire summer worth of bookings.
They all went through this scenario of cancellations two years ago and many companies have barely recovered.
So, if you have the means to do so, ask the company to hold your booking for a later date.
Or, if you have trip insurance, please take that route instead of asking the companies to “simply” refund your money.
This can be a huge help to the small businesses you booked with.
Many of which won’t survive this latest disaster and another season of having to refund all their bookings.
