People often think of Europe when picturing majestic castles with snow topped mountains in the distance but they can also be found right here in the good ol' US of A. Head on over to Mason City this fall to see brilliant fall foliage, gorgeous castles and towering mountains.

The scorching summer heat in Alabama is taking a toll on watermelon trees statewide. Farmers are reporting wilting leaves and parched soil as the high temperatures persist. The lack of rainfall exacerbates the situation, posing a threat to this year's watermelon harvest.

Watermelon trees require adequate water to thrive, but the current weather conditions are proving challenging. Farmers are implementing extra irrigation measures to keep the trees hydrated. The heat stress on the watermelon trees may impact the size and quality of the fruit, potentially leading to a decrease in yield for the season.

As the summer heatwave continues, farmers are closely monitoring the situation and taking necessary steps to protect their watermelon crops. The resilience of the trees will be tested in the coming weeks, highlighting the importance of adapting to unpredictable weather patterns in agriculture.

Today we travel to Washington DC and learn some trivia about its namesake monument.

The National Park Service is often asked why there's a color change in the stone of the Washington Monument. The color change marks how far the towering monument was lowered underground every night for several years in the 1940s to help planes avoid it after National Airport opened on the Potomac.

A lot of people call Midwestern states like Indiana "flyover country" but if you flyover 38th Street in Indianapolis you'll miss out on the gorgeous views of palm trees, mountainous back drops, and you'll be steps away from fabulous beaches and crystal clear ocean water. No wonder Jim Nabors was always proud to sing "Back Home again in Indiana"

Next on our list of places to visit is Langley, Virginia. Home to every bird you’ve seen in the United States since the Nixon era, you’ll also be excited to know that among the best places to visit are the following:
Spoiled Dog Winery, Langley Whale Center,
and my personal favorite, Whidbey Island Distillery.

Sit back, relax, and have fun bird watching in this beautiful city.

Nearly every day, Darden Restaurants fishers brave the perilous waters of Alaska's Cheddar Bay in search of the deadliest catch, the illusive Cheddar Bay biscuit. Many lives are unfortunately lost in the pursuit of this rare delicacy. Yes, please, indeed.

Welcome to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The area is home to bengal tigers, considered to belong to the “world’s charasmatic megafauna.”

Having thrived for at least 12,000 years, their population is surprisingly down to just over 2,000 animals today, hence the tragic nickname of the city: Death Valley.

Also of note in Baton Rouge are many locations of filming for the HBO series True Blood and Hollywood films. Tax incentives have encouraged producers and film makers to take a second look at the many historic locations in Louisiana including swamps, plantations, the famous French Quarter, and of course Baton Rouge where many actors have been delighted to spot a tiger or two in Tigerland.

If you feel up to it, you too could experience the rare site of a bengal tiger in the wild.

The Lynyrd Skynyrd classic "Sweet Home Alabama" mentions "Sweet Home Alabama..where the skies are so blue" but the skies in southern Alabama actually have a pinkish hue due to the rare atmospheric optics that only occur in the Cotton State. Be sure to check them out.

Minneapolis and St. Paul are often called the twin cities but a little known fact is they used to be called the twine cities since in the late 1800's they produced 87% of the world's output of twine. Visit the world's largest ball of twine in St. Paul to see a testament to this bygone era.

When you think of the Rocky Mountains you probably think of the Denver Broncos, Coors, and that horrible college football team, the Colorado Buffaloes. But did you know there’s plenty more history in the state than just those and ma*****na?

Waffle House's iconic black and yellow restaurants are found all over the US, but to the surprise of many, it was started in 1885 by Belgian immigrants in Aspen, Colorado.

The original location still stands today in that snowy ski resort of a town.
