During Prohibition, grape farmers found a clever way to stay in business by producing semi-solid grape concentrates known as “wine bricks.” These bricks were technically legal, intended for juice-making, but came with a tongue-in-cheek warning label that hinted at their true potential. The label read: “After dissolving the brick in a gallon of water, do not place the liquid in a jug away in the cupboard for twenty days, because then it would turn into wine.”

This playful disclaimer allowed farmers to skirt the law while giving consumers a wink and nod toward fermentation. Though authorities cracked down on illegal alcohol, wine bricks became a popular loophole, helping Americans quietly continue winemaking at home. It was one of the more creative and humorous workarounds of the Prohibition era.

Just finished this beachy/wine twist on the classic peg-jumping game for the cottage, made from a chunk of lightweight driftwood.

Yes, I'll need a few more corks... Fortunately there's plenty of those on the eat-in kitchen table haha.

Their new patio next to the Wine BARn is fabulous with brand new Adirondack rockers aplenty. One of my favorite area wineries... And now it's even better! And they have farm animals.... What's not to love?

A local favorite dining option, unpretentious and unfussy, but reliably consistent in friendly service and great food. The well-worn wooden floor is proof of its history as a popular winery restaurant.

Although it's not easy to make a good Cabernet Sauvignon in this region and climate, they've managed to make a great one, and it paired nicely with a bowl of their thick and savory broccoli cheese soup.

This charming winery is the closest one to the Creekside Corner Cottage, at about a half mile away, and is a great starting, or ending, point for a scenic adventure trip to the numerous surrounding wineries.

Just look for a large red building with a GIANT wine cask out front. CHEERS!
