Adults flying within the U.S. now need a Real ID or another approved ID (passport, military ID, or Enhanced Driver’s License). While Real ID also functions as a driver’s license, standard licenses are still valid for driving in many states. If you don't like to fly and don't drive far from home, you don't need to hurry to get one. Still need one and would like to know how to get yours? Here are the steps:
📆 You need an appointment (look in comments to book one, and good luck!)
📃 You will need to present a few documents to verify that you are who you say you are. Things like your birth certificate or passport, Social Security card or W-2, and two proofs of address.
😎Name changes require even more documentation, like your marriage certificate.
🪪If everything goes well, you will leave with a paper copy of your Real ID. The "Real" one will arrive in the mail in a few weeks.
Real ID is necessary for flying domestically, but it does **not** prove citizenship and is **not** valid for all travel types, such as closed-loop cruises, which require a passport, Enhanced Driver's License, or birth certificate. If you don't already have a passport, I highly recommend applying for one. You will likely receive one faster than receiving a Real ID in this area.
