The Dissertation Fellowship
The dissertation fellowship is intended for scholars who have completed all requirements for the Ph.D. except the dissertation. Dissertation fellows will receive compensation equivalent to the compensation of a starting one-year instructor at the host institution. Modest funds could be made available to finance proposed research and scholarship. Mentoring of teaching will be provided. Modest funds, if available, allocated for these activities will be subject to the usual institutional procedures. Dissertation fellows will be expected to teach the equivalent of one semester-long course during the academic year, participate in functions such as departmental seminars, and interact regularly with students. The postdoctoral fellowship is intended for scholars who have been awarded the Ph.D. or M.F.A. no later than the beginning of the fellowship year and no earlier than five years before the beginning of the fellowship year. Postdoctoral fellows will receive compensation commensurate with the salary of a full-time, one-year faculty member with comparable qualifications. Modest funds could be made available to finance proposed research, mentoring of teaching, and scholarship. The funds allocated for these activities will be subject to the usual institutional procedures. Postdoctoral fellowship recipients will be expected to teach up to 60% of a full-time faculty's course load at a host institution, participate in departmental seminars, and interact regularly with students. The Consortium was founded as an association of liberal arts colleges committed to strengthening the ethnic diversity of students and of faculty members at liberal arts colleges. The early goals of the Consortium with regard to faculty diversity included encouraging U.S. citizens who are members of under-represented minority groups to complete their graduate programs and to consider faculty employment in liberal arts colleges. The Consortium invites applications for dissertation fellowships and post-doctoral fellowships from those who will contribute to increasing the diversity of member colleges by increasing their ethnic and racial diversity, maximizing the educational benefits of diversity and/or increasing the number of professors who can and will use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of students. Applicants must be able to provide evidence of U.S. citizenship or unconditional permanent residency status at the time of hire. Appointments to the fellowships are made by the member institutions according to local needs and local program guidelines under the general framework for dissertation fellowships and post-doctoral fellowships described by the Consortium. The The CFD member institutions (listed below) invite applications in all disciplines for Scholar-in-Residence appointments. Applications submitted on or after September 30, 2015 will be considered during academic year 2015-16 for appointments in academic year 2016-17. While there is no general application deadline, all applications received by September 30th will be given fuller consideration.
