Today marks 163 years since the Battle of Gettysburg came to an end on July 3, 1863.

After three days of fierce fighting, the Union victory became a turning point in the Civil War and helped shape the future of the United States.

As we approach America's 250th anniversary, Gettysburg remains a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made to preserve the nation.

Today, we honor the thousands who fought, those who lost their lives, and the enduring importance of preserving the places where history unfolded so future generations can continue to learn from the past.

Today marks 163 years since the Battle of Gettysburg began (July 1, 1863), bringing war directly to the doorsteps of local residents.

As Confederate forces pushed Union troops through Gettysburg's streets, the Welty House became both a refuge and a battlefield.

Solomon Welty, his family, and their neighbors sheltered in the home's basement while Confederate sharpshooters occupied positions nearby and Union soldiers held the high ground on Cemetery Hill.

Fighting raged on opposite sides of the property, leaving bullet and artillery marks in the brick walls.

Over 160 years later, those scars remain visible as reminders of America's bloodiest battle.

Today, reports of apparitions, unexplained activity, and the distant sounds of battle have led many to believe the events of 1863 left a lasting imprint on the property itself.
