Some 400 steamboats sank in the Missouri river between 1819 and 1895, when steamboat traffic gave way to railroads and barges. Most of the boats sank after striking snags, which were occasionally visible but just as often submerged.

The Battle of Glasgow is just one of many exciting stops on our Glasgow Scenic Driving Tour. The First Methodist Church was used as a hospital to treat the wounded.

The Battle of Glasgow was fought on October 15, 1864 and was part of Confederate Major-General Sterling Price's Raid to capture St. Louis during the American Civil War.
