Planning a trip to Italy (or anywhere in Europe) in 2026? There’s a new step you’ll need to know about before you go ✈️

Starting the last quarter of 2026, travelers from visa-exempt countries (like the U.S.) will need to apply for ETIAS before entering most European countries in the Schengen Area.

Here’s the quick breakdown:
• When it starts: Expected last quarter of 2026 (exact date TBD) �• Who needs it: Visa-exempt travelers (U.S., Canada, Australia, etc.) �• Cost: €20 (~$20–$23 USD) for most travelers �• Who doesn’t pay: Under 18 + over 70 (but still need to apply) �• Validity: Up to 3 years OR until your passport expires �• Approval time: Usually minutes, but apply early just in case

A couple important notes:�– This is not a visa, just a travel authorization�– You’ll apply online (official EU site once it launches, not before)�– Your passport should be valid for at least 3 months beyond your trip

If Europe is on your 2026 list, this is one of those small things that can turn into a big headache if you miss it.
