Planning on a float trip on the upper Gulkana this summer?
We currently have a number of rafts available for the 4th of July week including 13- & 14-foot raft and 2 - 16-foot catamarans. Costs are $125 and $135 a day and we can deliver them to Paxon of Sourdough for you!

King fishing has really picked up on the Gulkana River this past weekend.

I have seen the number of fish being caught jump a bunch today. The guided groups are doing well and I will add a Pic from today for you. Water levels are dropping which forces the kings into tighter holes and better fishing.

Bait is the key. Be sure to have fresh cured roe and plenty juicy. The best time to fish is NOW! Monday to Thurs sees very few people on the river. Friday to Sunday will be busy.

Rafts. We have lots of 12 and 13 foot rafts for the lower river and some smaller cats as well. If your looking at the upper river we have a fleet of 14 foot round boats and 16 AIRE cats. Prices run $125 to $135 per raft/per day and that includes drop off and pick up on the lower river.

4th of July. If your considering doing the upper river we have lots of rafts to choose from and all the camping gear you will need including tents, cots, kitchens and Dry Bags.

Good morning from the Gulkana River!

I was down at Poplar Grove yesterday to make sure the trail is clear as we have rafters headed out tonight. This is a popular out in for a quick overnight float and has lots of great holes to fish for Kings!

The Guided trips and hooking up some very bright fish and the kings landed are in the 20+ pound range.

Rafts are $125 a day and the big Cats are $135.

Gulkana Rafting in Gakona Alaska is reducing our fleet of rafting gear. All equipment is part of our Rental Fleet and is good working order. Rafts are priced without frames, but I can give you a better price is you want to buy the raft and frame together. No oars, pumps or cam straps.
Frames are mostly NRS Bighorn and Longhorn frames.

I just drove up to Paxon Lake and lots of ice so honestly don't expect to float the upper section of the Gulkana River for another 8 to 10 days.

The Sourdough to the bridge section is open, ice free and not running that high but lots of sweepers in the water.

KINGS: The water is muddy and cold but early Kings should reach the river by June 5 or so.

Well, it is May and that can only mean one thing for King Fishing. The Gulkana River!

Gulkana Raft Rentals will be open for business on or about June 5/6 depending on the river conditions. If you’re looking at filling your freezer with Kings, we are your bet for reaching those holes from Paxon Lake down to the Richardson Bridge.

AF&G has a new requirement to carry a King Permit along with your fishing license and King Stamp. I am attaching the link.

Rates for 2026: Rafts $125 per day and 16-foot Cats are $135 a day.

BOOK EARLY DISCOUNTS: Book your raft before May 25, 2026, and the rate is $120 per day for rafts.

Credit Cards: Yes, we accept credit cards, but we charge 4%, Cash is King!
