Did you know that lobsters can live for a very long time? Some lobsters can even live more than 100 years.

In 2008 a twenty-pound lobster was caught off of Newfoundland. At 20 pounds, it is estimated that George the Lobster was 140 years old!

After a brief career of posing for pictures in a New York restaurant, he was returned to the ocean.

Did you know Lobsters are either right-handed or left-handed.

A lobster’s claws are called the PINCER (or “cutter”) CLAW and the CRUSHER CLAW.

The Crusher claw is the dominant claw which it uses for crushing, fighting, and opening shells. It can be on either side of the lobster making it right-handed or left-handed.

Did you know that the Annisquam Lighthouse has both a white light and a red light? These lights are arranged so that if you can see the white light, your ship is on a path to safely enter the channel. If you see a red light, then you are at risk of hitting the sand bar.

Every lighthouse has a unique pattern of “light color”, “light pattern” (how long it is on and off), and “light period” (how long it takes for the light to complete a cycle). Sailors could identify where they were simply by identifying the lighthouse by its color, pattern, and period.
