Smoke Rise Ranch A western style family adventure in beautiful Southeastern Ohio. We have rental cabins, rental horses, camping, fishing and hiking. Weekend events.

The Ranch is operated by James and Donna Birthisel, following nearly 30 years of ownership by the Semingson family. The Semingson family brought a longstanding tradition of natural horsemanship and professional cow working, as well as being a family that welcomed all its visitors like one of their own. James and Donna have enjoyed Smoke Rise for a decade and are looking forward to sharing the knowledge and experience with the Smoke Rise family.

With much sadness we are cancelling another sorting. Please let your friends know we won’t be sorting this weekend. Thank you to all that tried to help us find cows. Truth is we found some but not at a price we can pay to have a sorting that makes less money.
This picture reminds us of all the cattle drives, the great people we met and took on their first round up, all our friends who showed up excited to help! We thank you all and love you all.
The last couple years has been very stressful trying to find events people want to attend. Not many worked. We are going to step back and discuss what’s next for us and the Ranch. This years non cattle events will continue, you are always welcome to come ride, sit by the fire and have a cold one.

Here we are again. At this point we have no cattle for next weekends sorting. We have exhausted our resources. If anyone knows of any cattle for rent/lease at a reasonable rate let us know. Otherwise we will have to cancel the sortings. We did find cows available at about twice what we make on a sorting…. Thanks for all your support and patience.

James and Donna have enjoyed Smoke Rise for a decade and are looking forward to sharing the knowledge and experience with the Smoke Rise family. “Helping others make their dreams come true” is our moto! The ranch offers different types of horse events to give equestrians a chance to try something new or to get out of their comfort zone for a little bit. We offer trail riding, cattle events, obstacle courses, horsemanship clinics, seminars, and just down home fun events like Derby Day races, Train Robberies, and overnight adventure rides.
