Shawnee Hills AVA The Shawnee Hills AVA is an American Viticultural Area located between the Mississippi River and the Ohio River in southern Illinois.

The wine appellation includes over 2,140 square Shawnee Hills American Viticultural Area, Southern Illinois Wine Country The Shawnee Hills AVA (American Viticultural Area) is the first such wine growing region in Illinois. It encompasses large swaths of the Shawnee National Forest area in Southern Illinois. Varietals such as Chamborcin and Norton and the Chard Seyval hybrid Chardonel are found gr

owing throughout the region. There are wine trails to be visited, lots of lodging options and plenty of shopping. Golconda, IL is the heart of the Southern Illinois Wine Trail and is within an hour and a half of more than two dozen incredible and varied wineries and vineyards.
