What a fantastic day at the 42nd Annual Golden Golf Tournament. From the first tee shot to the final awards, it was incredible to see alumni, friends, and supporters come together in support of students at Mines.

A huge thank you to everyone who played, sponsored, and helped make this long-standing tradition such a success. Your support continues to create meaningful opportunities for current and future Orediggers.

Emmalea Yunk '26 graduated magna cm laude in Mechanical Engineering from Mines, where she also had the honor of delivering the commencement address to her graduating class. In her speech, she reflected on the Mines community that played a foundational role in her success.

During her time at Mines, she held several leadership and service roles, including President of Tau Beta Pi (Engineering Honor Society), Marketing Director for the Senior Traditions and Networking Team, SWE mentor, and honors student. She also worked for over three years at the PASCAL Center and served as a teaching assistant in the Mechanical Engineering department for two years. One of her favorite contributions was designing the Senior Blaster logo used at graduation.

She was awarded the John Steele Commemorative Service Award in Mechanical Engineering in recognition of her commitment to serving the Mines community. She also shared a memorable moment celebrating her graduation alongside her close friend and Student Trustee, Charles O’Donnell. She will next attend George Washington University Law School to pursue a career in patent law.

Two graduating Dignitaries helped strengthen student philanthropy at Mines through the Mines Foundation Dignitaries program, launched in 2024. Jessie Ledesma ’26 and Estevan Gonzalez ’26 played key roles in engaging their peers in giving back—helping contribute to a record 580 student donors and $62,000 raised this year.

Through their work, they helped shift the conversation around philanthropy on campus, showing that giving isn’t just for after graduation, it’s something students can be part of now.

Andrew (Andy) Flynn P.E. ’86, ME ’98 graduated with a B.S. in Geophysical Engineering and an M.E. in Geological Engineering. After graduating during a downturn in the oil and gas industry, he pivoted into consulting engineering, beginning in construction materials testing and later moving into environmental engineering as regulations created new opportunities.

He spent the first decade of his career conducting fieldwork across the U.S. assessing soil and groundwater impacts, including projects with the National Park Service and the U.S. Department of State in West Africa.

Currently, Andy serves as Director of Alumni Engagement here at the Mines Foundation. He brings his career and Mines experience full circle—giving back to the institution that shaped him by helping connect generations of Orediggers, build lasting relationships, and supporting the next wave of engineers solving the world’s toughest challenges.

Aspen ’20 and Owen ’20 met through mutual friends while at Mines and began dating in 2021 after a friend’s birthday celebration. Currently, he works as a transportation engineer in Golden, and she works for a defense contractor in Longmont. After commuting between Lakewood and Longmont early on, they now live together in Lakewood.

Living near Golden has kept them closely connected to Mines traditions, from Homecoming and E-Days fireworks to alumni events, with many of their closest friends also being Mines graduates. Golden has also been the setting for many of their favorite memories, including hikes on Lookout Mountain, time at the Golden Mill and GCB, farmers markets, and summers along Clear Creek—where he also proposed.

Outside of Colorado, they enjoy traveling together, most recently to Tasmania (where they even went bungee jumping), as well as trips to the Dominican Republic, Canada, Mexico, England, Greece, and Turkey. Their next adventure is planned for Taiwan this fall.

From student-athlete to CEO, Jackie Haney '01, is giving back to the generosity that helped shape her journey. A high school cold call for a swimming scholarship led Jackie from chemical engineering at Mines to becoming CEO of UnionRock and now, she’s helping future Orediggers overcome financial barriers through a scholarship supporting student-athletes.

In her story, she reflects on how beneficiary designations make giving simple and accessible, why certain planned gifts can maximize impact while reducing tax burdens, and why she believes “now is the opportunity” to start building your legacy.
