🌍 Happy Earth Day 🌿
Today, and every day, we invite you to explore our wild spaces with care and respect. By following the principles we protect the beauty that makes this place so special. 💚

📓Plan Ahead: Research your destination, check weather conditions, and tell someone where you're going.
🎒Be Prepared: Carry essential gear like navigation tools, sun protection, insulation, illumination, first aid, fire starter, repair kit, nutrition, hydration, and emergency shelter.
🥾Stick to the Trails: Stay on designated paths to prevent erosion and habitat damage.
💩Trash the Trash: Pack out everything you pack in, including food scraps and human/pet waste.
🦌Respect Wildlife: Observe from a safe distance, don't feed animals, and be aware of wildlife behavior.
🔥Be Careful with Fire: Follow fire safety guidelines and ensure fires are extinguished completely.
🌻Leave It As You Found It: Minimize your impact on the environment and leave the area as pristine as possible.

Let’s leave Grand better than we found it—for the next visitor, and the next generation.

'Tis the season for wildlife safety tips! Whether you’re hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park, skiing the slopes at Winter Park (where moose have been active all season), or strolling through town, wildlife encounters are always possible — and your actions matter.

✅ Give Wildlife Space
Stay at least 75 feet from elk and deer and 120 feet from moose and bears. Use your zoom lenses or binoculars — never approach for a photo!

🚫 Don’t Feed Them — Ever
Keep food, coolers, and trash secured at all times.

🐾 Know the Signs
If an animal changes its behavior (stops eating, looks at you, moves away, or shows aggression), you’re too close.

📍Be Bear Aware
Never approach a black bear (or a cub)! Travel in groups and make noise on trails.

👣 Leave No Trace
Pack out everything you bring in. Wildlife can be harmed by your leftovers — even organic ones!

Let's do our part and recreate responsibly to keep Grand County’s wildlife wild. 🫎💚 What's your favorite wildlife moment from visiting Grand County?

No foolin'...Here’s a list of six totally real (but almost unbelievable) things about Grand County:

1️⃣ Grand Lake is Colorado’s deepest natural lake – At 389 feet deep, this stunning alpine lake isn’t just for boating and scenic views—it’s a record holder.

2️⃣ Hot Sulphur Springs held the first Winter Carnival west of the Mississippi River in December, 1911 which is considered to be the beginning of the ski industry in Colorado. The original carnival featured ice skating, tobogganing, cross country skiing, and a ski jump exhibition by Carl Howelson. This is "where it all began."

3️⃣ Winter Park Resort is Colorado's longest continually operated ski resort featuring over 3000 acres of award-winning terrain. Thanks to its high elevation and snow retention, Winter Park keeps the fun going longer than most.

4️⃣ You can cross the Continental Divide on a bike – Roll over Rollins Pass at 11,660 feet or take on the famous Mountain Bike Capital USA trails in Fraser.

5️⃣ The same river that carved the Grand Canyon starts in Grand County—No joke! The Colorado River begins its journey right here in the Rocky Mountains. In Kremmling, you can fish its Gold Medal waters or take on the thrilling rapids of Gore Canyon. Start your adventure where it all begins!

6️⃣ You can snowmobile to a bar – Grand Lake is known as the “Snowmobile Capital of Colorado,” and yes, you can literally ride your sled right up to a local watering hole.

Which one surprises you the most?
