The University of North Dakota, founded by the Dakota Territorial Assembly on February 27, 1883, proudly stands as the state’s oldest university — and it’s been shaping big ideas ever since. UND has grown into a national leader in engineering, medicine, aviation, space studies and unmanned aircraft systems, with research that reaches from the prairie all the way to orbit. With more than 100,000 degrees awarded, UND’s alumni roster is stacked: Olympic gold medalists Monique and Jocelyne Lamoureux, NASA astronaut Karen Nyberg, NBA icon Phil Jackson, former Buffalo Wild Wings CEO Sally Smith, Pulitzer Prize winner Maxwell Anderson and GameStop CEO Dick Fountain all got their start here. UND’s story is fueled by grit, curiosity and ambition — a legacy that keeps pushing ideas forward and shaping what’s possible for generations to come💚🤍
