Brekke Tours & Travel

Brekke Tours & Travel Giving you Scandinavia...and the world! www.brekketours.com In addition, transportation was provided westbound for affinity groups originating in Scandinavia.

Brekke Tours traces its origin to the late 1950's when Arne Brekke, a student from Norway, worked his way through graduate school in America by conducting summer tours in Europe. In 1967 Arne Brekke organized the first charter flight from Fargo, North Dakota to Oslo, Norway, for the Sons of Norway. With the onset of public charters in 1982, the market expanded and flights were opened to the genera

l public. Mpls/St.Paul served as a base for the charters, and a large number of Scandinavian-Americans from the Midwest, as well as the western states, joined our flights. In recent years, charters have been offered on a limited basis due to lower airfares and greater flexibility provided by scheduled service. In addition to providing independent travelers to Scandinavia with numerous travel options, Brekke also offers a variety of escorted tour packages. Brekke Tours is currently serving as a tour operator and destination specialist to Scandinavia. After designing our own itineraries, we package and market our product on a national basis. The diverse tour itineraries encompassing Norway include visits to areas (i.e. Kristiansand, Stavanger, Trondheim, the Valdres Valley, etc.) which are not always presented in other tour programs. In cooperation with local Norwegian cultural directors, persons engaged in emigration research, and organizations promoting Norwegian-American relations, Brekke Tours annually features one or more heritage tours to various regions of Norway. Heritage tours have been offered to Møre / Romsdal, Telemark, Hardanger, Hallingdal Rogaland, Numedal, Trøndelag, and Gudbrandsdal and are now being offered on an annual basis to Sogn, Voss, and Valdres. Brekke Tours has extensive information on all aspects of Norway: the location of all farms; detailed information on the 448 municipalities (herreds- and bykommuner); current information on persons employed in the municipalities, i.e. mayors and cultural directors; current phone and fax guides; encyclopedias; and access to the latest genealogical information. Brekke Tours makes extensive use of the Scandinavian languages, especially Norwegian & Icelandic, and is thus able to convey information that is generally not available in English. With a varied assortment of English language brochures on numerous regions and hotels in Norway, we are also able to provide clients with detailed information on specific areas of interest. With extensive experience in group travel, knowledge of the Scandinavian languages and people, Brekke Tours receives numerous inquiries for assistance in designing tour itineraries for organizations, families and group leaders. Brekke Tours also designs tours in the Midwest and the United States for Scandinavians and other interested groups. Based on the company's close ties to Norway, we are pleased to combine our love of travel, our enthusiasm for Scandinavia and the Midwest, with our work. We truly enjoy sharing the information, experience and wisdom we have gathered through the years as a tour operator. We would be happy to assist with travel arrangements here at home in the Midwest or to our favorite corner of the world - Scandinavia. For many people, a trip to Norway is something they’ve thought about for years.

It’s often tied to family history… stories passed down… or simply a desire to see where it all began.

And for a long time, it lives comfortably in the “someday” category.

But every now and then, something shifts.

We start hearing things like:
“I think we’re ready to do this.”
“Maybe we shouldn’t wait too much longer.”
“Could this be the year?”

If Norway has been on your mind lately, this might be one of those moments.

We’re hosting a relaxed, no-pressure Norway Travel Preview where we’ll walk through what a trip could look like, share photos and experiences, and answer any questions you might have.

Date: Tuesday, April 14
Time: 1:00pm Central Time

If you ever find yourself near the Dallas–Fort Worth area, consider making a small detour to Clifton—known as the Norwegian Capital of Texas.

Just a short drive into the countryside near Clifton, you’ll find a simple church and cemetery. It’s here that Cleng Peerson—often called the father of Norwegian emigration to America—was laid to rest.

Standing in this quiet place, it’s hard not to reflect on the courage it must have taken to leave everything familiar behind in search of a better life.

This part of Texas feels worlds away from Norway—rolling hills dotted with scrubby trees and tall grasses instead of fjords and mountains. And yet, in spring, there’s a kind of shared beauty. The landscape comes alive with wildflowers, budding trees, and abundant wildlife…a reminder of renewal, no matter where you are.

🌟 Already Been to Norway? See the South in a Whole New Way! 🇳🇴 🌟

If you’ve checked off the classic fjord highlights and cities on a previous trip, this is your chance to explore Norway from a different angle — with a mix of coastal routes, charming towns, local culture, and scenic experiences that go beyond the typical tourist spots.

Introducing the Majestic Southern Norway Tour (July 12–23, 2026) – Brekke Tours, a 12-day adventure from Bergen to Oslo that includes:
✨ A ride on the iconic Flåm Railway through breathtaking landscapes
✨ Cruises through dramatic fjords like Aurlandfjord & Nærøyfjord
✨ Scenic drives along the North Sea Highway with ocean views & secluded beaches
✨ Stops in coastal gems like Grimstad and culturally rich regions like Telemark
✨ Time in historic cities like Stavanger, Bergen, and Oslo, but with plenty of time to explore things that interest you!

This route blends postcard scenery with authentic memories — from artisan workshops to hidden heritage sites and quiet fjordside villages — making it ideal for travelers who’ve “been there, done that” and want a fresh perspective on Norway.

Everyone talks about Norway’s breathtaking fjords — and yes, they are every bit as spectacular as you imagine.

But some of the most meaningful moments on our Norway’s Fabulous Fjords tour happen in the quiet countryside.

This journey isn’t just about dramatic landscapes and soaring cliffs. It’s also about stepping onto family-run farms, breathing in the fresh mountain air, meeting local hosts, and experiencing a side of Norway that feels wonderfully authentic and personal.

These photos aren’t glossy magazine shots — they’re real moments captured by past travelers. Simple. Peaceful. Beautiful. And completely unforgettable.

Sometimes it’s the slower moments — the rolling hills, the grazing sheep, the warm hospitality — that stay with you long after you return home.

If you’d love to experience both the iconic fjords and Norway’s charming rural life, take a look at the full itinerary here:
